wheelbuilders in Gauteng?

Christie

Recommended Posts

I need some advice. Where can I find a good wheelbuilder in Gauteng?

Arno at Fritz is very good, but only if he does the job himself. If he gives it to some of the other guys is comes out poorly.

I want to have a powertap hub build into a Reynolds tubby deep section rear wheel. I've heard good things about Cyclelab, was thinking to try them first.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Christie, I cannot give you a name as I have been away from Pretoria for too long and have since mastered the art of tensioning wheels. I have yet to build a wheel though. Get a guru that uses a spoke tensiometer. Nobody can "quess" the tension, no matter how much experience he has. it is trying to diagnose a brain tumour using a stehoscope.......correct use of a tensiometer ensures equally ditributed and balanced tension all around a rim. If not, the wheel WILL go out of true. I re-tensioned the tandems road wheels just after the ARGUS last year and they have been running true since then.

Anton at Summit Cycles.  He has built wheels for BigBen, and the oom has no complaints.  BUT, you'll have to wait till after the Epic.  He's FLIPPING busy with forks/shocks at the moment.

There was an ad in the Ride mag over December. This guy guarantees his wheels against broken spokes. I will go and look for the ad but I think his email adr is   wheelman@telkomsa.net  but not 100%.

Kyalami Cycles, they build a set of carbon Ambrosio's, best builders yet. They build all Zipp's wheels.
