What would you recommend for a pre race rub. I use arnica oil. I've heard of a few home mixtures like arnica and lemon oil or arnica; ginger and eucolyptus ect.

Is there really a mixture that does warm up your legs before a race? Something with some scientific proof maybe?

Jaco go to a sports massage therapist and find ouyt from them what they would use i know my girlfriend either uses tea tree oil or the FiT pre race rub on my legs

 

 

 

remember arnica thins your blood as well so dont use it too much unless you have problems with blood clotting

do a search. there was a thread about this a while ago. think that the conclusion was that only a warmup ride can warm up your muscles.

Fanie then explain how the pro's overseas can sit in thier trailers till 2 minutes before the start and only get given a leg rub and then they are off and averaging over 40???

 

 

 

not taking a dig at you just asking how it could be working for them but here in sunny south africa we can only go on a warm up ride to make our legs work?

Did not attack you i just asked a question and i do speak from current experience

 

 

 

in my last two races i have been given a leg rub about an hour before the start and i did better than i have done the whole year without leg rubs before the start so yes each person is different but i dont think it can only be a case of only a pre race warm up ride will get your legs warm

It's not a matter of warming the muscles. What a rub, and the potion, does is to improve blood circulation. Heat causes the capillaries to expand resulting in better blood flow. A rub can achieve this since capillaries are shallow. It will not warm muscles, you will need more than a rub for that. But with blood flow improved muscles will warm up quicker.

 

Oh and BTW I am a gerontologist so I know about these things.Wink
