YES!!!  I LOV IT      I tought you well!!

You guys are talking such sense here.. seriously Big%20smile. NODDY badge for all of you!

We mountainbikers are such a fine example of people solving their own Problems.. im just going to pretend I didnt read the first 4 pages.

Its so much easyer moving out the way when youre looking up the trail, you hear the rider far off, so you look up the trail to a nice spot to move out the way and whalla the rider comes flying passed and if its a lady you even get a whiff of her perfumeLOL, the crossing happened without much notice.

To be honnest here If Im busy negotiating through a rocky downhill section and I suddenly have to stop and pull out the way the chance of somone going down is much better.

I doubt there will be consensus about this so we just keep it the unwritten rule. It seems Its working cause Ive never had anyone express themself negative because of this.

The irony of KDEE's little "I'm so superior" rant is that he is actually showing himself to be 'Mr.Cool' with all the hard and fast RULES. A right Tonto at the other end of those posts. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Leave the jokes to Barry Hilton dude' date=' and even HE sucks donkey nuts....

Sigh.. bustingvomitus... oh dear child, there are no rules.. only respect for others... which you display so little of..

I was waiting with bated breath for your reply as to why you didn't sort out the TONTO wearing lycra dude who ruined your ride...

But typically, your mouth writes cheques that you cant cash, and thats why there will always be be a 'next time'

To all others, I also agree that descenders have unwritten right of way, when there is respect involved. Bombing down a hill at the speed of light, expecting the ascender to move when the trail is only 5 inches wide and full of bush on either side is going to get both of us hurt.. Remember the ascender is often looking down at his front wheel and not up the hill. A friendly warning or shout will get you past safely every time..

TG i'm not into mountain biking - the only time you will find me in Tokai or MF is when i take my son to play on his bike. and then we ride up the jeep tracks and down the singletracks and we keep left and pass right like most reasonable people.

So after AAAAAAAAAAALL that, KDEE agrees that DESCENDERS HAVE RIGHT OF WAY. go figure. My response to the rest of your Dave the Tonto speech is this:

It was a busy day at Tokai yesterday' date=' and there were loads of riders out and I was wondering...

When on single track and another rider is approaching from the opposite direction, is there any sort of unspoken rule as to who gives way? Eg the one going downhill gives way to the one going uphill because it's easier for them to pick up momentum again?

Stoffel,

it is generally accepted in other countries that the rider cycling up the hill has right of way, so rider descending haveto yield.

Generally though, even if a trail is not marked as two way or one way, we should always exercise caution since there are other hazards like walkers, horsy types, wildlife, etc that need to be catered for.

e.g. During Night rides, even though the forest is virtually empty, we still yield to those Leopard Toads. In order to yield we need to ride at a speed that allows you to react.

On Monday I too found it quite frustrating riding up the singletrack when a few riders refused to yield. One sod even screamed at riders coming up the fire road because he was too important to slow down.

rules I say are for people who lack consideration and respect for others.

We MTB'ers have been self regulating for a long time but I think the time is fast approaching where we will need rules. That is a sad day...
