A friend of mine(Wink) is looking at these two bikes (frames only, he's got the parts to whack on there) and cant make up his mind.

In your opinion which is the better buy, and give reasons please?

1) Santa Cruz Superlight

2)Pivot Mach 4

The Pivot is the more expensive of the two (by some margin) but is it really that much better?

Can you compare the two, or are they in different leagues?

Your input will be appreciated

Have a look at this site.

I would probably go for the Pivot.

Based on the information on this site I would probably go for the Pivot.

Go with the Pivot. DW-link is FAAAAAAAAR superior to single pivot. Far. As in light years.

They fall in more or less the same cat. Both can handle their fare share of trail riding, will excel in marathons or XC. Pivot has better traction, is less dependant on pro-pedal and has less bob with same amount of sag.

I've seen three broken Superlight frames in one Epic so I'm not too sure on how long it'll last. Pivot will be more exclusive and you can bet your bottom dollar you will get world-class service from Victor and his team at Two Wheels Trading if you have an issue. But I'm sure you won't.

The DW-link is worth the extra money. Do it.

Btw, I have owned a couple of different bikes and the DW or multi pivot bikes where never a maintenance nightmare.Plus the on trail advantages far out-weigh the extra costs of bearings.

Go with DW.

Jagwil- in what category does the mach 4 fall on that site?

Probably a 4 bar linkage. A 4 bar linkage does NOT necessarily mean MORE maintenance.

I agree with The Crow on this.  Go with the Pivot. Far superior.

I do not agree with Goodbadugly or Mampara.

The Mach is definitely NOT a 4 bar linkage, it's a DW link design.

I don't know how you guys pedal but my SC hardly bobs when shock is fully open and not at all when on level 3. (shock does not have lock out).
