Honestly ,who really benefits between a 20k and 30 k bike. The true professionals.

I ride a 10k ali with ultegra 10sp. On races i have been beaten by guys with rc2000's.

I don't know how it must feel when you spend 45k on a cervelo and get beaten by a 5grand bike???

As Lance says...... it's not the bike.

This sport has become veeery image concious. Have u noticed, the more expensive the equipment the less chance of waving back.

the reason a bike a more expensive than another is because of the quality of the materials, the stifness of the frame and wheels, the weight, the durability, and of coarse how cool it looks.

No one can ride a 10k bike then a 30k bike and say that there was no difference, cause they just kidding themselves. but on the otherhand, unless your not a pro or very competivive in you age group then spending a lot of money is a waist. One should only spent that kind of money if they have honestly reached their max level of fitness/ability and still want to improve, but not the guy who rides once a week or rides all the 'fun ride' races.

Same goes for houses cars and clothes. Why wear a levi when you can buy at woolworths or pep. Why ride a Merc or BMW when you can ride Volkswagen or Honda. Why live in a R4mil house by the see when you can go much cheeper closer to work or whatever.

Not all image you know. Just becuase you can!! Its not always a matter of trying to be better, just if you like it and can afford it do it.

Some ppl will put more money into food, or clothes or cars, while others would think its a waste do eat out everynight of ride a milion rand car. Or a 50K bike for that matter.

People have different opinions on spending patterns and that does not make it wrong to spend on what you love.

just my opinion - obviously there will always be posers out there too. Just live with it

Did my best Argus with down tube shifters. The problem with the sport is that you can compaire it with computers.Every 4-6 months something new comes out and your current one is considered old. I ride a Schwinn fast back pro ali frame with ultegra groupset which I bought new in 2004.In 2004 it was top of the range Scwinn , now I am told my machine is at the bottom of the list.Crazeeeeeeeeeeee To those who can afford to buy for over 25k...........go for it and enjoy it smiley2.gif

To hide money from SARS.

I have seen this at few bike shops.

A father blew R200k on bikes and kit for him and kids a little while ago.

For R20 000 gets you a bike with 105 on it.I would say anything over R25000 for a frame is obscene.

The diff between a Ferrari and a Vw is Huge, The diff between a house in clifton and Kyalitcha is huge , the diff between a 2004 Pntium 3 and a dual core Pentuim is big. The diff between a 10k bike and a 50k bike is SMALLLLLLL.       It's in the legs

Does it feel better to win on a old peugeot steel frame or to be last on a Cervelo???????

Trust me , you will be admired on the peugeot and laughed at on the cer

9 times out of 10, the more you pay ( to a point ) the better the quallity and weight the components are....giving you a better ride with greater performance!!!
