Ok....whoever imports these, please explain the price difference:

I clicked this ad banner on thehubsa.co.za and see that these nice pink hubs for the GF cost US$535 and that includes the shipping....

 see here

If I order them for her it can potentially cost me (535 x 8.20) x 1.14 = R5001.18....

Qoutes I've got locally for Chris King hubs is no less than R9k...Ouch...

The agents have to pay their clearing agents and building rent and staff to answer phones and offer back-up and the months 335i's payment.

Ok.....makes sense and R9k seems reasonable....

...it however better be a late 2008 model on the prime less 5% finance plan.....else I'm ordering from overseas...

Have you tried CRC?

The Chris king Hubs are brilliant but far too expensive from my LBS, I have had to settle for either Hope II, Shimano Saint or Nuke Proof.

Good Luck

But they also don't pay US$535 for them - what do you reckon - US$320 wholesale? That makes a whole lot of difference!

B2B - Mr King all the way, the ultimate in bike porn!!! Dude makes parts with surgical tolerances, I mean that is just amazing.

I9 give him a stiff battle, but it doesn't have the heritage.

Then again, if I could afford any of them I would be a happy bouncing biker...

I don't understand this obsession with CK hubs. There's nothing special in them that makes them a compelling purchase. They use cartridge bearings that are expensive and short-lived. Get Shimano XT hubs for a fraction of the price, with low service cost and better reliability.

CK make its name quoting some incredibly silly engineering tolerances that mean nothing.

I agree that the availability of pretty colours is a factor, but for that price I'll rather have black,  black or black.

I have a mtb riding friend at work..he's trying to convince me not to buy "cool" hubs....like CK, Hopes or Ringles...he claims that these hubs hate a thrashing day-in-day-out....wheres your cheapass hubs are basically bombproof..

He agrees that hubs and racing wheels make a huge difference, but he claims that you can only use them on race day and hence his argument that they are a waste of money...

Anyone agree...?

I, for one, am in it for the looks and THEN for the function.....hence either Sun Ringles or Hopes...CK is tooo expensive...I'm not interested to brag to friends that my Chris King hubs have outlasted 1000000 spokes, 10 rims, 7 bikes and 3 dogs and etc....[add you list here]...

I've just ordered a set of Hope Pro 2's from CRC for a new bike build. Price was 50% of the local price (after discount) and I know the importer quite well !!
