Wild West Road Ride

What do you mean no racing? A training ride is not a training ride until I get dropped at least 3 times.

Don't worry Nance, I can see I'm going to be dropped so many times on Saturday that I will have an even more odd shaped head than I am currently used to. If nothing else, I need you to be there so I have a good reason to ride at the back. There may be more than just the two of us and it will be fun when we get past the pain barrier. So looks like Tazzman, you and I will be bringing up the rear. If the hills aren't too bad, I may just have one or to "intervals" one some of them.

GOv2.0, dude, just call me wooden spoon. I love to stir it up. Sometimes more fun can  be had ripping the hole right out of the hosepipe than watering the garden. It was fun yanking that chains of our northern cousins.

Come Saturday, they will kick my butt, but for now, it's more fun than I have had since I were a children.

Care to tell me why I can't ask if there are single women on the hub? Are there? Is it important if they are single or not?

Trubes, did you go riding this AM in tihs cold?

It's not cold. It very cold, with a capital "F".

Wooden Spoon, aka Slave...there be plenty of uphills coming your way on this ride! And no, there are no single women on this forum, and even if there were why would we care? We are cyclists and only our bikes matter to us here!

Yip. Bikes never have headaches, PMS or other ilnesses that the feminine gender is prone to.

They so sometimes give us a bit of grief (the bikes) but I can outsmart a bike any day. Fiugure out the problem and fix it.

Not so with women.

Moral of the story. Ride a bike. Who cares about single women, married women, any women?

Have some good lady friends like Nance and WW, but that's more than enough.

Hills, yes. A few coming up, but they too end. And usually there is a corresponding downhill to rest. With women on va uvva hand, you get uphill all the time and no place to hide or rest.

Shall, I pack away the spoon now before someone beats me to bloody pulp with it? (Good call.)

Hahaha Slave.

I am planning to have an easy ride on Saturday so if you hanging on to the back I will probably be there too. The hills are not too bad. You survived SBR and if you can ride those hills then you will have no problem at all! The biggest problem will be the cold!

I am liking that suggestion though, of having a ride out in the south. Maybe we can turn it into a regular event, alternating between the North and South.

Andy, I hate to inform you but the ride on Saturday is actually in the west.

I grew up in the north, now live in the South and know precious little about the east and the west unless it Kruger National Park in the East and Pillanesberg in the West.

For the rest of it, they are merely places en route to other places. I guess same can be said for the North or the South.

It's like there are only two good things in Cape Town. The mountain and the N1 route out of there.

Hat, coat, outa here.

Seriously, SBR is a lovely ride. I love it. There are plenty hills around here and if you can stand to ride as slowly as I do, you're welcome to come over and we can go and do some hills.

Personally, I hate the things but I realise their value in training.

If it's just the two of us, then traffic should not be an issue and we can even ride later when the weather is a little more cyclist friendly.

I'm still trying to find an acceptable plausable reason for not riding Saturday. I am really not looking forward to the weather. (Then again, 10 minutes on the bike and we will be sweating.)

Slavey... you have no excuse. I have to take a 12k cycle to be at a meeting spot @ 5:45 (? - real time in a PM somewhere) to cycle to Riverstone, so shush!!!

Ox,my man. I do not see anyone holding a .38 calibre to your head and whispering in your ear "Ve haf vays und means...." For that matter I do not see a luger being held to your head either.

By a process of logical deduction and conclusion, it is therefore apparent to me that your modus transportus for Saturday morning is voluntary.

You trying to run with the hard core dudes, like playing with matches. You will burn your fingers.

Stop trying to prevent me from having a happy childhood.

Dude, you like a friikin parent. "Johnny, don't do this. Johnny, I told you never to play with the neighbours daughter."

Frik, dude, gimme a break. Let me have some fun with my (your) new buddies. All the ones on my other thread are worn out. (Same as the neighbours daughter.)

Hellloooo!

Well it would be the North West. That would be a good idea. The only way to get better and stronger is to push oneself. Riding along a flat road is something anyone can do.

Thug, earlier this morning it was predicted at -2 ... glad to see it warming up as the day get closer! smiley4.gif

Predicted temperature on Saturday is err....... -1

dress warmly out there !!

Keep it up chaps, keep it up and I will definitely become chicken enough to stay on the porch with the puppies.Tongue

Freak. It was cold that day when Ox came south to ride. I got lost in the mist and only the sound of popping tyres kept me going in the right direction.

I think it was a nice and fresh zero degrees when we got to Xumbugs. Least, that's what I remember it being. But was still zero and that is more than minus anything.

The weather is steadily improving (hope it is not a false promise), Weather24 predicts a minimum of a flat zero for Saturday Thumbs%20Up - better than -2 smiley2.gif

The good thing is that this area is warmer than where we normally ride anyday....so good day to choose to ride West.

Slave, I hope you don't mind us dumping some extra clothes in your car once we arrive at Riverstone.

Hey WW. No, I have no problem with that. It will be very difficult though since I am leaving my car at home. Traveling with Trubie.

As long as you have a pink blouse for me to ride in, no problemo.

The one thing that Saturday will NOT be is a race !!! We have a rule in all our club and social training rides that we stop and regroup at the top of every hill or where necessary so no one gets left behind. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Nancy Drew you'd better be there or I will  have to get Big Ben to order you a special blouse too.

Hmm? I like pink' date=' it?s just frilly that bothers me.  I didn?t think BigBen would have to order any, I was under the impression he had plenty spare Wink

<?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Nancy, please do not reconsider! There will be more cyclists than just you at the back if that is where you want to ride,.Trust me on this <?: prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" />

IanJ, I agree completely. NO RACING and we wait for each other.

Saturday will be a very loooong day in the saddle for me (actually my longest ride since the 1991 Vasbyt!), so this is an endurance ride, not a speed fest.

Somehow, judging by the list of names, I?m having a bit of trouble believing that OXman? Confused

HA HA HA' date=' that's a laugh ND, I'll be the one doing the holding up of the group (I haven't touched my bike in more than a month due to flu and family responsibilities) ... but like you, I've got a newly pimped ride that I need to test, so we'll be seeing you there then?!

[/quote']

I love that everyone is competing for man/woman holding up the rest of the group? but you gotta trust me on this tazman, I?ll be the slowcoach in this group? nice try though, nifty excuses Wink

On a more serious note, I am actually keen on joining the ride, if for no other reason, to test my upgraded bike.  The cold is scaring me, but I?m a tuff south chicky so I think I can handle it.

The distance is a concern to me because although I have been riding, I haven?t spent more than 2 and a half hours in the saddle since Sani2C. The last time I rode further than 50 kays was in Feb.

I?ll start with you guys and if I feel it necessary I?ll just cut my ride shorter.  Fortunately I know the area well enough to do so.

PS: I have it on good authority that you can add Joe Low to the list and possibly David#7

Ox - I have arranged a driver and will make my vehicle available to follow the group for back up, discarding clothes, to leave some eats and drinks or extra clothing.

Will have bike rack and foot pump.
