I recently did a huge amount of research on this as I have similar problems. I ended up buying Rudy Project Sunglasses with Photochromic ImpactRX lenses. These are awesome and not only do they respond to changing light conditions while riding but they are made to my script. have a look at their website

http://www.rudyproject.co.za.

TiBones.. With respect... I think those RX inserts look ridiculous and your peripheral vision is impaired as the inserts don't fill the full lens (just straight ahead).

Honestly... go with Rudy Project, they are by far the best solution for RX Sport Sunglasses. (i'll collect my referal cheque from them later.. Smile)

Discuss the issue with your optometrist. There are many different types of lenses (materials, shapes etc), some of which are better for riding than others depending on your eye shape, tear quality, prescription etc etc. There is not one make that suits everybody, your lens needs to be properly assessed on your eyes. PM me if you have a specific query (I'm an optometrist Geek), but rather see your own optometrist.

Do you have problems with your lenses otherwise (at work, or watching TV?) If not, as mentioned above, get a good pair of cycling sunglasses.

I also have very bad eyesight (my script is -5.50 on both eyes). I have only picked up problems with my lenses on the longer multi stage enduro events, as they tend to get dry and "scratchy". I always have those small eye drop sachets in my back pocket. One or 2 of these during a ride sorts it out. I also tried to use the Addidas evileye sunglass inserts, but my prescription is so poor that it compromises my eyesight if the lenses are dirty, and I want to take my glasses off.

Yeah, they do look a lttle "alien", specially when I put the yellow lenses in but, they for riding, not for fashion shows or picking up chicks. Peripheral vision doesnt seem to worry me though......

You can get special contact lenses that won't dry so quickly than the rest. Its cost a bit more but speak to your opt.

I hear you... but some of us wouldn't mind picking up the odd chick... so the choice is.. do you wear the insert and blow your chance of ever picking up anything, do you not wear glasses and not know what your picking up or do you have the best of both worlds by wearing cool eyewear and seeing who you're talking to..

You never seen me when I cycle. What chick wants a sweating dirty, blood bespattered bloke who is so out of breath that he can't talk anyway, trying to pick her up. At least I picked up Mrs. Tibones before I started cycling

Not sure about that... Seems to work well in the movies Smile

I used to have shocking eyesight (anything further than 1m away was a blur)and the contact lenses were not the solution to all the problems I encountered

Best thing I ever did was to have laser eye surgery by a Dr Venter in PE - he pioneered lazer eye surgery and taught the Yanks at med school how to do it.

I had it done in '98 and have had no issues. Glasses, contacts and all that are a long distant memory.

Highly recommended!

My eyes were very bad- I needed glasses to find my glasses- I rode with contact lenses for years with no probem until Sani2c about 3 years ago with mud like i've never seen. This actualy damaged my eyes .

Went for an eye op and never looked back. Now  I ride with no prescription glasses' date=' just glasses for eye protection.

The eye op changed my life - If you want more info let me kow.

My wife is happy with hers and I hope to get mine done in the next few years. At this moment the benefits are minimal for my eyes, but the op is improving exponentally each year.  If I do it now, I still need to wear correction lenses.

Latest is that last year they could only do 30% who wanted the op, latest technique will push it up to 60%. I have till I'm 40 to get the full benefits from this op.
