Whateva.  As jy na Shaun Davel se results gaan kyk sal jy sien dat hy altyd voor klaar maak en hy ry sonder 'n span. Hy gaan nie podiums kry sonder 'n span nie maar hy is altyd daar om te probeer. cover altyd en gaan saam met die attacks. Dit is waaroor dit gaan. Nie altyd results nie. Gee hom 'n span en hy sal results gee.

Wel Ridley as jy Pieter Seyffert op die Egypt toer gesien het sal jy weet hoekom hy in die span is. En hy't 'n 3de plek op 1 van die stages gekry op die toer.

Jaco en Jaques was laasjaar oorsee met Konica Minolta en hulle het nie teruggekeer vir SA's nie (net Hanco, Marnus en John-lee het teruggekom). Die Jaar voor dit (i.e.2005):

Road - Jacques 1ste, Jaco 2de.

TT - Jaco 1ste, Jacques 2de.

I didnt really want to get into this discussion as I quite like Pieter S . ,but ye I feel the squad could look different. Just to answer the above quoted: Both J's didnt ride SA's last year. The previous year the one got gold in the TT and silver in the road race and the got silver in the TT and Gold in the road race. That year Jaco was quickly ranked in the top 10 in the world cups in Europe and came 2nd at the Jnr Het Volk. Jacques won the King of the mountains jersey in Tour de Lorraine, a world cup in France.

Their jnr results translated well into the first years as Pro's as Jaco in 2006 won the Tswabac Classic and podiumed in at least two other Classics. In 2007 Jaco had a late start due to injury, but in the Giro he was the only u23 rider from SA's to podium on a stage in the Giro. Also finished in top5 SA u23 riders overall. Jacques also finished in the top 5 in the Giro.  Both riders could also hit the front and work in the Giro as they did so in the Giro on stage 3 to see if Christoph Sauser can make a go for it up the finishing hill. Jacques won EP Herald from a guy like Jeremy Maertens and Waylon( who was the winner of Egypt, but didnt do any work in the EP Herald break, yet still could not match Jacques or Jeremy)

The fact that results or performances in Asia or Africa tours are being used as guides is rediculous. The only place where we can compare is in SA and it is difficult as we have short, easy races where guys like Jaco and Jacques have to work mostly towards the sprint for Nolan. Same goes too for any other young propects. And last year they spent large amounts of time working for the very talented Velits Twins, etc.

Maybe Davel does well in Europe, maybe not. Same too for Pieter. I think is is premature to select a team for a six month period. Keep this selection if that then be the choice. Select then three other guys after SA's and bring the weakest guys back here. By the time you reach GP Tell you will have an idea who your team must be for Tour lAviner. Ausies do it like this, Danish do it like this, Germans do it like this, etc. Then apples are compared with apples and you dont select riders cause you try and compare and african result with that of any other. Baie geluk aan al ons SA ryers wat ten spyte van hul omstandighede goed gery het.... hoop al die organiseerders kan saam om 'n tafel sit en beplan saam met hierdie 6 ryers....daar is baie om te s? oor hoe ons land wedrenne behoort te benader en ryers op so 'n kort kennisgewing oorsee te stuur met geen reserwes, min of geen ordentlike voorbereiding en ondersteuning van die CSA, ondersteuners en spanbestuurders.

JY KAN NIE 'N PRO-SPAN GOU- GOU SAAMVLANS EN DINK HULLE MOET GOED RY NIE.

Dis tyd dat die organiseerders wakker word en sien dat al ry hulle hoe hard-

DIT ONMOONTLIK IS OM VOLDOENDE PUNTE IN TE PALM- geen ander land skeep hul ryers so af met so min voorbereiding, beplanning en dis tyd om op te hou kerm dat ons ryers nie goed genoeg is nie.

Hulle is ten spyte van als werklik talentvol en het tot op die laaste dag hul bes gedoen,,,, "flat box" gery, saam geval @ 'n hengse spoed @ die afdraendes  waar niemand mekaar verstaan en vir mekaar omgee. Tog ten spyte van als het hulle die "sprinters trui" gewen. Wel gedaan manne!!!

Hoop ons hoor wat na hierdie toer gaan gebeur - hopenlik te leer uit die o/23 span se ondervinding.
