They are terrible, sound like a cat being tied to a fanbelt. Unfortunately normally blown by some big-ass mofo who stares you down when you look his way. The only difference is the source of the noise is an "instrument" rather than tuneless middle-aged white men singing. I haven't been to a game' date=' so I can't comment on what atmosphere it creates, but the vibe in the crowd as we see on TV certainly seems to create a better atmosphere than, for example, the bearded boere sitting at a Bulls game. The only good reason I say to ban the vuvuzela is because it is distracting to the players. However, I don't really see how that is possible - sounds more like an excuse used by players that aren't performing. As for the "culture" question, South Africa in its current state is a cultural infant. Culture is being developed by new South Africans, based on the radical change in 1994. South African culture prior to that did not exist. It is much the same process as the Afrikaners followed to create a culture for a new nation, as American's and Australians have done since occupation of their territories.[/quote'] I am a bearded boer who was at Loftus to watch the Crusaders get smashed.I can tell you that, contrary to your supposition, the atmosphere there will take some beating. If you don't like blue, or beards, or Steve then you probably wouldn't have enjoyed the experience. Just as the fact that I don't like the vuvu spoils the experience for ME and will probably keep me from Soccer matches even when they give tickets away for free. Don't ban it, my ethno-centric opinion has no right to tell anybody what to do, but I don't have to like it or pretend to like it. I don't. I don't have to like something just because its supposedly intrinsic to someone's culture. Cannibalism is still part of certain cultures.I watch the soccer on TV with the volume turned down a little.
