Unimpressed with CycleArt

Well Cactus at least your handling this well and no objection to you bringing this too the hub.

Sorry to hear as everyone else seems happy with Cycleart.

With my experience in paint (had a craft manufacturing business for 3 years) this only happens when the paint is not correctly dried - LBS cannot be held responsible, problem exists with supplier.

It is exactly why I asked the LBS to send the frame to Cycleart - the Hub raves about their work - which made it worse when I saw the result....

The bike is a steel framed Daccordi (circa 198?) - I've posted original pics on the Hub a while back.  I did not get a quote (my own fault) but paid willingly because I took full responsibility - my own fault.

I'm not complaining about the cost - seriously - if the job had been up to the standard that other hubbers had raved about I would have willingly paid more than the R1,700 I was charged..........but it's not... up to scratch - urgh! bad pun, sorry Dead

Silly question, but just reading through this thread & seeing as you had the job done through your LBS, are you sure the job was done by cycle art ?

I am very happy with my frame and am sending my MTB to them after the Lost city.  would have loved to have had it done before, but I am not going to take a chance.  My frame cost R 2100 to do , so your was cheap at R1700

Would use them again and will continue to advertise for them too

Hey Sammajoor what you going for on the MTB?

The loved has a Spaz that is white and red.  Her 'Goose is Brown and Red.

Going to have the Gorilla painted in the same brown, BUT where hers is red, the gorilla is going to be the Liquigas lime green

I have had two frames done by cycleart and not a problem.I find it really strange that they would deliver a frame still "wet" he is very careful with the drying time even with me phoning and bugging him to hurry up.

I have seen JMK1's frames - they are as near perfectly painted as you can get!

That is exactly what I am wondering as well. If CycleArt has such a good reputation amongst fellow Hubbers, then I can't think that they would make such an elementary mistake.

We are really sorry here at Cycle Art that you are unhappy with our work but when we delivered your frame to your LBS there was not a mark on the paint, no scratches or chips, we would not compromise our good name by delivering shoddy work, so please take that aspect up with your LBS.  We delivered your frame in February and only received a complaint after Easter from your LBS who phoned us to tell us that the frame was in a "bloody mess" and we were to come and get and fix it.  Well, as the problem clearly lies with them, they should have brought the frame to us for inspection which they didn't.  We charged you R1650,00 for the respray plus R200,00 collection/delivery charges which is a nominal fee and we don't think this is too much for the work we did, the frame was old and shabby and after the respray it looked very nice indeed!  Some weeks after delivery, I returned to the shop to collect the outstanding balance in person and nothing was said to me, there were no complaints and I was not asked to take the frame with me.   Why wait until after Easter to phone us?  Where was the frame until then?  You are most welcome to bring the frame to us and let's see what we can do for you. Lilian
