Define screwed up?

I do not have a problem with my front chainrings but, when I want to shift to a lower gear I sometimes have to shift three times before I get any reaction. Shifting to a higher gear isn't a problem

Get Sram. You'll never have any shifting problems again. They are far superior in wet conditions than shimano. Im not biased because I ride XT. But Im getting Sram as soon as possible.

I had the cables and housing replaced 2 weeks ago before a 60km race. The shifting was perfect before the race.  I am stil struggeling with it now.

Sorry to say but SRAM is no gaurantee of 'you'll never have shifting problems again' and I ride both. It may be better in the mud but with enough mud it doesn't actually matter what you ride ..........

Agreed, cheap cables are a no no if you are a proper cyclist, whether you run continuous cables or not cheap cables will give problems.

Fit genuine SHIMANO or other quality cables. Personally I have always fitted XTR cable sets and have never had a problem with shifting, except where the bike got that clogged with mud that the d?railleur couldn't move nor the wheels    smiley19.gif

SpeedDemon, seeing as though you replaced your cables 2 weeks ago it sounds like they just need a bit of love and attention. Give the cables and outers a good clean and some lube and you should be back up and running again. Ask any hubber how and why and they can tell you - clean cables make for smooth shifting!

However if you came off during your race and bent the derailler hanger you may have to have that straightened by your LBS before you can get those slick shifts happening again. Again a simple procedure, but with a nifty looking tool.
