Sorry to do this mate. Well actually, I'm not.

1 Handlebar.

A pair of Handlebars. Same as a pair of pants. You don't say "my pants is too tight for me" (unless your name is Vernon) do you? YOu say "my pants ARE too tight for me". Same can be said for Handlebars. Or bars, for that matter.

Handlebar is definitely singular, and Handlebars denote plural. Even though bars are (plural again) made up of a single bar (mostly, anyway) if you drop a handlebar, it is dropped. If you drop handlebars, they ARE dropped.

The "S" changes everything.

Oh - and in answer to your question, I have a PAIR of handlebars on my MTB, and a Pair of handlebars on my road bike.

Wow! Endless entertainment on the Hub.

What do we fit to a bike? A pair of handlebars or a handlebar?

The handlebars were dropped by xmm vs The handlebar was dropped xmm.

My preference is for handlebar. I can see a pair of STI's, pair of calipers, but I only see one handlebar.

But then again a single pants is also called a pair! Who came up with this language? Maybe we should start speaking Xhosa.

They fall in the clothing category of underwear. Many bras and panties become sets of underwear and not underwears.

don't know why we're discussing this, but, it would be a set of underwear if it were a bra and pair of panties together. sets of underwear for a collection of undergarments. a set is a singular word.
