I think I've been taking too many of these on race day...

I would normally use 1 per hour of competition.

I have noticed a trend now in my racing analysis when viewing the graphs in my Polar software.

I think the caffeine in the Crazy Kiwi is driving my heart rate up, very seldom above my established max, but will sit between 90% and 95% for a very long time, abnormally so as I cannot sustain that with no gels on training rides.

Am I taking too many? or is the higher heart rate a benefit having more blood pumping through the veins?

Here is a graph of a race. 3 Gels were consumed during the race. No other foods were taken, and also during this race only 1 cup of water and 2 cups of coke were taken. (Lost bottle)

Tarmac, I think there is something in the water or food. The other day on a training ride my heart rate went up to 228. I could actually feel my heart pumping woes and that is why I looked on my Polar. I stopped for a while and it only dropped to 188, which is my max. I rode home slowly and it eventually came down.

This only happens to me after 2 cups of coffee if we stop on a coffee ride and like this during racing on Whasp. I don't have any coffee for breakfast.

How did you feel ??

The high caffeine should do that, increase your heart rate and give you the feeling that you feeling good, so that shows what we say is in the product is actually in there.

If you rode well and strong then it means it is working, 1 an hour is ok, i took 5 in a 2hr odd triathlon the other day, so you definately not overdoing it.

Cool I was feeling as good as could be considering losing a bottle and riding in the big blade only (mtb)

As far as the product goes I got a 4th place which was great for me. I can definitely feel it working, and I don't feel like my heart is going beserk. Performance seems to be right up there.

I was just worried that my heart would take strain. I almost need to up my Max HR on the polar to get a more true reading of my effort.

I ran a road race a year or so ago and within 5 mins of starting my HR was on 115% and I could feel it was there! I felt completely sick it went so crazy.

Weird though its the only time it has happened and I didnt have any gels. Maybe it just happens sometimes?

Yes it will happen sometimes.

I have just adjusted my max...if you have been riding constintly at a HR which is like 99% of your max or over you need to adjust it...

Remember its not your peak max like in a sprint, a max should be a effort which you can hold for about 60sec then have to stop...

This weekend we did a race in Bloem, and after about an our I was struggling to get my HR up.  Is it because i did not use any gels?  It was funny, because i was struggling and it was on a low HR?

Pornstar, if you use 5 gels in 2 hours, do you use just gels and water?

Francios if you are fatigued your HR wont come up... you legs just cant place the demand on your heart that you want them to. Your heart gets the oxygen there, but if there is no energy stores left, you cant go any harder.

Thanks for reply, but what do you use say for a

1 hour race

2 hour race

3 hour race.

taking in mind that you can only fit 2 waterbottles on your racing bike?

I would say the % of maximum doesnt have any influence. What matters is what % of your lactact threshold it is.
