From Cyclingnews on Contador's bike.

"Even the chain isn't ignored: after a fresh and through cleaning, Munoz first applies Sapim's mid-weight Race Oil then seals it in with a light coat of grease. The result is one of the silkiest drivetrains we've ever encountered and one needs no precision instrumentation to discern the significant improvement over a stock setup."

Sounds messy?

Likely because the precision instrumentation is incapable of picking up the extra smoothness perceived by the placebo-besotted human mind. (Edit: any extra smoothness that does result is due to the freshly cleaned and oiled drivetrain, not so much the specific compounds used)

I agree it sounds pretty messy. Cleaning and oiling the chain every day should do wonders for his chain life, though.

Cleaning and oiling your chain after every ride is not optional !!! The only messy thing is the beer you spill down the front of your pink shirt while bending over to pick up the pretzel you dropped .
