8kms only!?  . Think it is a bit further than that.

Ow!

It is 17 kms from your doorstep on mapmyride.

Gradual climb from one point to the next.

About 20 from my home.

Myself and Douw did a 60k mtb ride this morning before the sun came up, it was glorious

Glorious.

Good word.

A really special summer's day for an early morning spin.

I did 3 hill repeats on Tiekiedraai this morning.

Now i rest Thursday and Friday.

Where does the hill start and finish?

Judging from the hill repeat time frames, not too far down from Hillcrest entrance to Nitida.

All my guess work.

Went out for a loop yesterday afternoon, Klipheuwel rd to Silo's, right onto R304 towards Stellies, right again at Fruitsellers 4 way and back home. Thought it would be a nice relaxing, low intensity recovery ride. BAH HUMBUG!!

Wind got stronger all the way, and also changed direction. Upon turning onto the R304, it became WORK to stay above 20km/h. My ride turned into a workout of note. NOT VERY HAPPY WITH IT.

I went for a ride yesterday too - flip the head wind funneling between the Du Toit and Paarl mountains was hectic. At one point I thought my legs were fading and my fitness had dropped or something was wrong with me.

Once I turned onto the R44, I flew back to Wellington!

Planned the route that way - think I strained my left quad just above the knee in the landing on Sunday (that or I got a cramp in my sleep that I don't know anything about).

Tiny K,

Hot conditions can reduce performance, big time, if one is not acclimatised to train in those conditions.

It gets hot in that valley.

No such luck for me, unless I head into D/Ville / peak traffic. I can only do the loops that either go out on Klipheuwel rd, returning on Adderley rd. Or out on Adderley rd, return on Klipheuwel rd. And with the SE blowing, ALWAYS INTO IT COMING BACK. NO AVOIDING THAT.

Hope you did not do yourselve in with your jump. A knee can give you trouble for many years, or only start giving trouble many years later.

Till he slams on brakes without you noticing.

Beware that is a terrible training method, i have lost a dear friend under the wheels of a truck......

RIP Graham

Yeah, there are risks involved. I was watching the speed and distance the whole time and know the road well - the only reson he had to slow down was for the 60 camera towards the end of the drag. I popped past, broke away and tried to make the camera flash.... went over at 70.2Km/h - didn't flash

Nah, it was only a strain. Felt the sore muscle on Monday morning already and should have ridden that evening. The heat was hectic on Monday PM so skipped it. At 18:30 it was 38°C outside!

After the ride yesterday, the pain is gone. Gonna try ride the Wellington crit tonight and see how I do - similar to Killarney but in Wellington around the perde skoen.

Does anyone know of a looong hill to train on in the Durbanville area?

Longer than Tiekiedraai and Vissershok.

I'm doing hill training on these two hills, but they feel to short.

Malanshoogte... From the stop in Vissershok Rd to top where it descends into the dairy

Honestly, those two you mention are pretty good hills!
