come on guys!! we're all friends here, each with a valid opinion.

but i do sit on the fence completely, i started this sport because of the company it kept, every guy, is a nice guy, most of the time.

I respect the faster riders an move over for them, and the same is done for me, its mutual, but obviously there will be heated moments.

although i might not support his actions, jacques(masons) is one of the most talented riders i have ever raced against. we will definatley see him with the big guns in the future. yes he may be a teenager, as am i, but he is a good oak when you get to know him.

in my mind, manners with get you to the front of the field, and help you make friends with everyone that you pass, including the little ones who have more chance of becoming the next 'kevin evans' than i do.

Ek wil my dogterjie ook begin saam laat ry as ons ry maar glo my ek sal jou inry en dan daan jy kXk as ek jou kry. Ek wil net s? bly links gan regs verby. So ek gaan dit vir my dogterjie leer.

Daars egter vir jou verkeerd geleer my boet. Veral hierdie jong laaities moet leer relax of terug gaan Wii toe of girlfriends kry soos geballanseerde mense.

I think that people forget that their weekend pedal is a hobby. Finishing in the top 100 will not guarantee a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal- especially if you're doing the 30km event! Wink

LOL LOL LOL LOL ... just thought back to a comment made on another thread by a certain junior hubber that said he did not want to burn himself out and thats why he is sticking to 30km

Here's a random thought- if they TRAIN they might not burn out! Wink

Otherwise remember- some of us CHOOSE to ride 30km events. If you ride among the "slowies" and parents with kids then you've chosen your competitors- dont get grumpy when they are slow and wobbly.

Who were you expecting to find entering this event-Lance, Alberto?? COME ON! LOL

Cause if he shouted abuse or obscenities to Mrs C I would find the little stick insect and make him sh*t bike parts for sometime.

There is no reason atall to be rude to people during a race whe you need to pass them on singletrack or jeep track.

Was riding next to someone who had a major dose of friendly juice, or was that vodka in her bottle. She greeted and thanked every marshal and flag bearer she passed ... rubbed off on a couple of us.

Wonder how many cyclist had sworn at those people as they so appreciated the recognition they got from just a "Thank you"

Alot of people are talented and Im sure alot more than him and so what if he is good at 30km-most people are but it gives him no right to think he is god and shout and people etc. I wouldnt want to get to know him cause Ive seen what he is like already cause this is the 2nd time Ive heard bad stuff about him. The 1st one was from a mate who beat him and crying after doesnt get you 1st.

Had my say.

I will try to translate this into iengliesh as it seems to me that many in the Cape Colony did not read or understand what I wrote......

.....if you deliberately hold up riders coming from behind you are the rude one....... then those faster cyclists coming from behind may shout at them to remove their fat asses out of the way!!!!!

Courtesy is NOT and has never been a one way street.

Its the fear of being shouted at by the aggro people that has made me stay away from bike rides.

I'm not fast-or even very stable- on my bike' date=' but I also enjoy cycling. Having to put up with the stress of being verbally abused and embarassed in public (at an event that I've paid to attend) is not for me.

You can keep the races, thank you.

Most bike races, especially MTB races here in Limpopo, are fun and filled with polite riders who are willing to stop and help you if you have a problem.

An example is the Akkedis which I took part in on Saturday. My nephew had 3 punctures and was not only helped by other riders to the detriment of their own time but they even gave him their spare tubes after he had used his. If any of you guys read this thanks and when in Tzaneen I will buy the beer!

Unfortunately you will get rude, unpleasant people in all sports. Just ignore them, they tend to be few and far between.

I am sorry for the OP's experience in the Cape but I hope it is not indicative of the MTB racing there as it really goes against the spirit of the sport.

Colonel, with all due respect, you didnt copy the most important part of that paragragh. I did not once say that i agree with him or that he is god, all i said is that WE should take some time to get to people before we judge them.

I don't think the point is riders holding other riders up deliberately, but rather riders coming up fast and shouting comments behind you.  What are you doing there if you're THAT competative?!  THATS when I will get p'off and take my time.  It has never happened though... but I have a cousin who's a really nice guy, but when he gets on his mountain bike he turns into an @sshole, also doing the shouting thing.  I'm getting him around, but slowly.

But, I have also come across plenty of riders who ride two abreast, knowing there's faster riders behind them.  I've never shouted or even commented to these riders, but maybe someone should tell them nicely.  My friend told me just the other day about a slow rider not even wanting to make way for the marshall on the bike - on a jeep track!

No reason to yell.

If youre as fast and experienced, you'll be able to identify when someone is just cruizing along, or when someone is whobbly and nervous.

When I start lapping the field in a xc or 24hr I do the above. If I see a nervous rider ahead of me (especially in singletrack) I approach calmly and ride behind him if it's the type of singletrack where I can't pass in the bush. You don't want to make someone crash when you're sitting on his wheel.

I'll calmly talk to the person from behind and tell him that I'm gonna pass as soon as the trail allows for it. And then a THANK YOU and off I go. Makes ME feel good and I'm sure the rider I passed as well.

You get the hero's who try to challenge you when you lap them on lap 6, when you're just hanging on, but they also disappear at the next little uphill.

I remember in 24hrs Omni-Motion near one of my last laps, a team rider came flying past me without warning and dangerously close to me. I might have been slower than him, but I've ridden over 400km at that time. I lost my composure for a moment and jumped the pedals and rode him in from behind and almost kicked him off his bike - I didn't yell at him, but I was close to feeling like really hurting him... the emotions of a 24hr solo.. but normally I'm not abusive towards others.

What do we want to 'klap' someone?  I remember in Seweweekspoort 2006 just after the start, I was still with the leaders and some sponsored rider who didn't know me, came from behind and yelled at me. I was 6th in the leader train. At that moment I felt like I could get off and kick his face off his body. Yes... aggression triggered by aggression....

100% I never said you thought he was I just said or meant that riders mustnt think they are.
