My Classic Roadie, just fitted new Rims, Rear Derailer, chain and 8 speed cluster.

Massive difference compaired to the old steel rims, feels like it is Brand New and not 32 Years old.

DHC stands for Deale & Huth Cycles, a South African company. Fabrication of the bikes was done by Hans Huth who was of German descent. Most guys in their 50's or older had one as a kid or knew someone who had one.

I had one as a kid, my first bike, and I'm no where near 50! Well OK, I'm nearish...

Nice, money eating machines indeed but the joy is always in seeing the finally restored product.

Hey all

Should probably advertise this in the ads section.

I have a set of 80's tubbie wheels that I might sell

GP4 rims, Campag record hubs (32 hole) with screw on type cluster. Was my set of racing wheels in 85/86 - still has the 86 tubbies on from the SA's in East London :-)

Apart from cobwebs the wheels are in a perfect condition. I will replace the spokes though!

HE HE, some basic Avalanche rims with Quando hubs, cheap and cheerfull. They look more expensive than they are.

This bike is still used as my race machine, love the expression on faces when I hit a hill and start shifting with good old friction shifters.

CONUNDRUM

Can anyone shed any light, please???

Bought this from RadBaby, as an ALAN Carbonio AND NO, THIS IS NOT A MOAN ABOUT THAT, RadBaby and I have a great relationship, so there's no problem.

I just want to find out what this is.

It has ALAN forks.

It does not have a seat post binding bolt, it uses a quill seat post. This is a French seat post and the cable guide under the BB shell says MADE IN FRANCE!

OK, so now?

Alan BB shells are always stamped, to my knowledge anyway. This one is not!

The lugs do not look Alan type, especially the rear drop outs.

I can't find any records of Alan's not using seat post binding bolts.

Vitus Carbone 3 plus used a quill seat post.

But, the lugs don't look Vitus like either, note the double lugged head tube, Alan like, but not Vitus like.

Anyone have any ideas???????

For those of you that are better googlers than I, find anything?

HeyYou, certainly doesn't look like an Alan.

I was thinking Vitus but can't recall those lugs on the Vitus either.

I think it is a Peugeot carbon frame made by Look.

Hold on to that seat post as they are very Hens Teeth!

I searched LOOK images too, nada.

Maybe I'll search Peugeot carbon.

Mosquito was a brand imported by Deale and Huthe back in the 80's. I remember drooling over them alongside the Vitus' they had in their showroom in JHB when I was about 14yo

Thanks Morph, but it sort of adds to the mystery.

I must be honest and say that I don't remember them at all, but then I lived and cycled in PE and, as I recall, we only had 3 bike shops:

Cyclo Pro & BMX

Coimbra

Action Cycling (late 80s)

all still around too, which is cool.

But I digress, I wonder where / who they imported them from?

Perhaps they were Alans!!!

To add fuel to the fire!

The BB is Italian threaded, suggesting it's not French, at least LOOK or VITUS.

As far as I know, both of these use English thread BBs.

Other than Alan and Colnago (which it ain't) anyone know of other early Italian lugged carbon frames?
