Try building the wheels yourself.

I've recently built my first pair, took me two days, about 8 hours in total!

Made a few fundamental mistakes, but learned a lot and had to pay only R60 to have the wheels checked and spokes torsioned.

This should bring back some memories. It is a three speed Phillips, English make in the sixties from similar bikes on the net. This one however has a Raleigh South Africa sticker on so may have been assembled locally.attachicon.gifPhillips3sp.jpg

Did some further research on this bike and made an interesting discovery. The bikes fitted with Sturmey Archer English hubs can be dated by the hub. The year and month is stamped on the hub. So this is in fact a November 1983 model and not a 1960's one. post-51655-0-47219300-1430427002_thumb.jpg

Hi Guys,

We are going to have a classic bicycle ride in The Cradle on Friday, starting at Something Country at 7.30. We will decide on the route on the day.

Bring friends/family/other riders bikes, parts, etc and after the ride we can have breakfast.

See you there

A big thank you to Evan and Jono for arranging the ride this morning.

Great to see so many cool bikes, especially a red Basso with C Record groupo. So many Colnago's!

Also so nice to see a lot of young guys riding older bikes!

Thank you also to the guys that came from a far. Look forward to many more rides, a chat and breakfast.

Keep safe on the road.
