Hi all, I need some help ID'ing a frame!

I picked this up over the weekend as I needed some parts off of it. I haven't really gotten down to stripping and cleaning yet, but from what I can tell, it's had a respray. Some more details:

  • Cinelli BB shell,
  • Campagnolo rear dropouts,
  • 3 cable guides on top tube,
  • no bridge between chain stays (indicating a high end frame?)
The BB seems to have a serial number that's rather difficult to read due to the respray. I have a plan to get it on paper which I will most probably attempt tomorrow. The fork is from a Daccordi (Silva d/o's) but I haven't been able to find any leads to it being an original or its use in conjunction with the frame. Here are some (bad) pics:

that is a very old Daccordi frame and fork before they started pantographing the seat stays and bottom bracket! The three brake cable guides also gives you an indication that this is and early seventies model.

This is an interesting find, a Raleigh track frame in TI colours with Reynolds 753 tubing. The serial number is SB1065. I did some research and the SB in the serial number indicates that the frame was built at the Special Bicycle Developments Unit of Raleigh in Ilkeston. The Reynolds decal says "Reynolds Cycle tubing" and "Respray" Anyone have any knowledge on these frames?attachicon.gif20160321_143459_resized.jpgattachicon.gif20160321_140152_resized.jpgattachicon.gif20160321_140206_resized.jpgattachicon.gif20160321_141918_resized.jpgattachicon.gif20160321_141938_resized.jpgattachicon.gif20160321_143511_resized.jpg

The TI Raleigh's were brought in for sponsored track riders only! I would love to know what size that bike is because two great South African cyclists rode them namely Anton Hauptfleisch and Joe "the Bullet" Billet. This was a bicycle manufacturer war against Gottie Hansens sponsored riders at the time where it was said and I quote from riders of the era that if you did not ride a Gottie bike you did not make the SA Team! Anton and Joe took exception to this and choose to ride opposition bikes.

If you would like the story from the horses mouth contact Proffessor Anton Hauptfleisch at the Free State University and ask him about those bikes and the story behind them....it would make interesting reading.

Update on the Le Jeune build.

Parts I have gathered

- Matching 650c/700c Mavic open 4 cd rims

- Cinelli unicanitor saddle

- Campy 151 bcd pista crank (But would prefer to use something from the 80's so if any one has a campy 144 bcd pista crank or c-record they willing to part with let me know)

- 36h Campy rear hub

- 28h Mavic 550 road hub (If anyone has a Campy 28h front track hub please let me know)

Im also still looking for a Campy 27.0mm seatpost, headset and track pedals. As well as a cinelli 110/120mm stem.

Hi Dan, are you interested in selling the Campag 151 bcd as I have plenty of gear blades. I had two piste 151 sets but was unfortunately affirmative shopped and the left crank of the 165 set was taken and the right drive side of the 170 set was taken so left with two mismatched sets.

awesome build Barry

Hi kamaalo, John Koen at Velotex has just made me a short sleeve Lejeune Pro jersey like this which came out insanely nice for eroica. He has the artwork setup so will not be a problem to run another jersey. This is the pro jersey used by Lucien van Impe when he rode for Sonolour in the 70's.

Hi Olffie,

That jersey would be perfect for Eroica

Can you send me the contact details so I can order one?

Can they make a cap as well you think?

Thanks,

Barry

Hi Barry, I dont think he makes caps but they are available on ebay.

I tried to have socks made because I know Velotex make socks but they

will look at it as their minimum order is 300 pairs!

Get hold of Christopher O'Linsky 0716747694 and tell him I referred you about the Lejeune jersey.

Sven

Hi Eric, this not an ordinary Master, it is an Arabesque Master.........very rare! I think there were only 500 made in 83 - 84! Check your right rear back stay on the drop out and it will have a three digit serial number. Let me know what the number is.

95% of all Arabesque's were sold as frame sets only for Colnago's 30 Anniversary.

The 5% were sold as complete bikes with Colnago 30th pantographing on Campagnolo parts! These complete bikes command pricing of between R100,000 and R400,000 all depending on condition and if the bike is complete or not.

Regards

Sven

Hi Sven, thanks for this information. I bough this bike with a mix of components including Sante, Dura Ace and some Campagnolo so I am assuming that it was built up from a frame set. The serial number on the drop out is 532. Regards Ericpost-51655-0-60172000-1459096451_thumb.jpg

Hi Sven the size stamped on the BB is 60. I will definitely try and get hold of Prof Hauptfleisch. Regards Ericpost-51655-0-93008800-1459096889_thumb.jpg

That is one nice bike and we must try and make a register so that we can keep tabs on where these bikes are when they change hands and not get lost like many Cinelli bikes and frames are in SA.

It's also a race DJR has entered.....the shorter version though, as I don't think I'm ready for 140km of mostly gravel on my old Colnago. The spacing of the Delta brakes is so tight, there is no way to fit bigger tyres, so, I'll just go for the fun of the ride and the beer. And of course to check out everyone elses bikes.

Looking forward to meeting you DJR.

I think most of us had similar problems. My main issue was that no ways am I taking my older bikes with rare groupsets out on gravel roads. My solution was to build up two new bikes, SA build frames. It's been fun and my missus and I are enjoying riding around on the bikes and even the hills don't seem to be that much of a problem as you relearn how to "grind"the gears.

Over the past few months I accumulated some older brake levers and callipers (1st ten DA and 600 series) which I am using temporarily on my Eroica builds so that I can have exposed brake cable housings and able to fit larger tyre sizes. I aim to swap back the newer aero parts after the Eroica.

I have some more down tube shifters and other bits that I am willing to sell if anyone requires something.

My Alpina front fork can't accommodate a larger tyre than 23c so that's what I am going to ride.

I have not decided on which bike to use for the Eroica ride. My Hansom can accommodate 32c tyres and I have a Peugeot that can take 28c tyres. I am still leaning towards an Italian bike though in the spirit of the history of the ride so I have my Battaglin on standby.

That was my thinking also
