Hi guys

Need a bit of help regarding cassettes. Will the new Campy cassettes be compatible with an early 90's groupset? I have a 9 speed Campy cassette at the moment, 11-21, but need some extra gearing for the hills. There is guy selling an 11 speed cassette, 11-25, on the Hub and am wondering if I can just drop to cogs and put it on my bike? The ad is below

The start of my Eroica Colnago project .

Whilst still looking for a suitable frame I was going to go for full Campag . But on stripping this Colnago Expert ( built in 1982/3 ) I read up on Gipiemme parts .

GPM made parts for Campagnolo before Campagnola started their own manufacturing .

This bike had a beautiful Gipiemme crankset , original GPM bb in excellent condition , GPM sport brake calipers , GPM headset and GPM front derailleur , I decided to stick to GPM for this project .

I had a while ago bought a set of Record hubs and a set of new ( old ) Ambrosio rims .

So pse hubbers I need the following

Set of GPM track pedals

Set of GPM brake levers ( non aero )

Set of GPM downtube shifters

Rear GPM derailleur 6/7 speed .

26.8 seat post of Italian origin.

I want to finish the project by 18 March 2017 , being the date for Eroica South Africa 2017 .

No. the spacing is different. If you cannot find it locally, look at CRC and order from them. I think a 29 tooth is available also.

I to admire and collect Gipiemme parts, especially track groupsets. Gipiemme were often referred to as the poor man's Campagnolo. The earlier Super LJ series from 75-80 being particularly nice.

It look's like your bike had the Crono Sprint groupset series from early to late 80's.

Gipiemme didn't manufacture for other brands such as Campagnolo. In fact various manufacturers produced Gipiemme branded parts. They included Campagnolo,  Simplex (derailleurs) and Modolo (brakes) so if you can't find Gipiemme branded parts don't feel out of place using Simplex and Modolo in its place.

I will check as I may have some DT shifters for you.

Sorry DJR, but yes you can use the 11 speed cogs.

Just use your 9 speed spacers

Assuming that the cogs can be separated to singles of course, which is easy anyway.

I learnt something too.

So, the cogs from an 11 speed cassette will slide onto a 9-speed freehub? All you need are the spacers from an old 9-speed cassette to put in between?

What chain should one use?
