According to the previous owner, the bike used to belong to Wayne Burgess who raced in the Hansom team. Allegedly they did not have TT frames so he had the Bianchi frame sprayed in Hansom colours (pink, white & yellow if I'm not mistaken). The previous owner bought the bike from him and had it sprayed by Phantom Graphics in the colour scheme it is now.

I like the way the cable routing goes on the second pic; underneath the top tube. Nice to seen it on a metal frame.

Not quite sure what I'm going to do with this one yet....

Awesome!

Thanks. Any idea what the Bianchi model is in my first post? Would like to get some more info on the bike. I see that it has a sticker with "Formula Two Columbus" on the seat tube but cant find any other info on it.

Looks like a late 1980's Bianchi, possibly Columbus SL, although the Formula 2 is not something I have heard of in a long time. Bianchi made use of the odd graphics and lighter grey decals in the late 80's, which became darker in the early 1990's. My first brand new bike was a Bianchi similar to that one. Just dont make them like that anymore. You have a very nice bike there Ricky Bobby, I would give my proverbial to have found that bike, with those calipers. Enjoy her.

Are you certain the TT bike is a Bianchi? The rear lugs look like Reynolds lugs, not Columbus. Does it say Bianchi on the frame anywhere? Gotty made a lot of TT bikes in that style both for the track and road. Wayne Burgess was an Argus winner and an all round great guy.

Formula Two was tubing supplied just for Bianchi in the mid 80's. Theres lots of conflicting info about the Formula 1 and Formula 2 bikes, but from what I read they are put together with mixed tubing from the SLX and SL and SP ranges. One site I found says that Formula 2 is Columbus SL with an SP seat tube.

Whatever you have, its a real score, especially with the full C Record groupset.

Hi guys, I've always followed this thread with much interest since I've always wanted to own a old school road bike. I think I might've found it + some spares.

I intend to restore the bike below....

Sorry Ricky Bobby, I hate to spoil the party here, but the TT bike is definately a Hansom! The telltale sign is the use of a make shift lug where the top tube meets the seat tube. Gotty was notorious for that. Also, the internal cable routing, had it been done by Bianchi it would have had triangular styled lugging around that as well. Sorry!

Chances are it is either a Reynolds 653, or 753 tubing, as that was Waynes preferance. Good stuff, and a great bike. Is the fork 26inch?

That full C Record grouppo is amazing, just like Velo said!

Very nice find. A bit of a concern that the c-record cranks are shoe-horned onto what looks like a sh1tmano 105 open-ball bottom bracket. Hopefully the taper on the cranks is still intact to match up with the loose campag record bb you have pictured..... VERY NICE FIND.....

from what I can remember, these formula tubing bianchis came kitted with sh1tmano 105 or RSX as entry level "Italian steeds" the telltale sign that its an entry-level frame is the brittish thread (1.37X24T) BB.

Plus the lack of a braze-on fd hanger.

Thanks for all the input & kind words guys, really appreciate it.

Daideron, the TT is a Bianchi (based completely on hearsay that is). The previous owner (Franco as mentioned on the frame) told me that when he got it it was in the Hansom colours and that it was originally a Bianchi painted to look like a Hansom (you can still see some of the old colours on the top of the seat tube and where there are chips on the chain stays). Franco had the bike resprayed by a company called Phantom Graphix with a glitter lacquer which they had left over after they painting somebody's Porsche. Sort of has the same shimmer as the old Nokia 6110. The original fork on the bike was for a 650 wheel and then a 700 rear. Franco changed the fork to suit a 700 front wheel. Whether there is any truth in the rumour that it is a Bianchi is besides the point since I was after the big brother and the box of spares biggrin.gif Tried to look at the serial number but the coat of paint is quite thick and as a result not clear.

Still have to go through all the spares and identify them (not too familiar with old road bikes) and the missus is not to keen on me unpacking the old dusty box on the dining room table.

Any idea what the little knobby thing at the back of the head tube is on the other Bianchi?

Hey RB, that certainly is a special project. Top drawer potential.

( that watch and cycling glove tan is quite pronounced!)

Hehe. Thanks HC. My "supplier" said he has a wooden track disc type rim which he has no use for. He'll try and bring it to the office on Monday since he is immigrating soon. Will post it and see if there are any takers since it is not something I have any interest in and and I would like to see that all his old stuff end up in a loving home.
