Many of you on Cyclelab's email lists may have received the test recently done on all the top end carbon frames, incl Cervelo, Scott, Giant, Lapierre, Trek etc. Although Cervelo came out tops everytime, the Scott performed really well, especially if you're price sensitive.

email Andrew at andrew@cyclelab.com for a copy, as independant assessments go this is pretty good. smileys/smiley1.gif Interesting to see was that some of the more expensive frames such as Trek did not perform well at all, while the titanium frames are nowhere in terms of rigidity (although many will tell you that's part of the reason why you buy it...??)

Reason why CycleLab is sending out those test is because they are currently selling Cervelo, and although undeniably awesome frames, the tests would be biased toward Cervelo, just as test results supplied by Trek would show the Trek's in the most favorable position, etc, etc

Snap Crux!!!! I was thinking the same thing just too afraid to voice it! I was in Cyclelab and the salesman showed me the tests but I'm not convinced that the TCR Advanced faired as bad as their results suggested. Quietly I was outraged and wanted to tell the salesman so, but then I looked around at the bikes that are on sale in the shop and you realise that it's almost as if they manufactured that test and results for themselves. The R3 is a very nice bike, and I wanted to buy one, but the guy who sold me my Giant put things into perspective for me, "The difference between a Fiat Palio and a BMW M5 is vast, but there's precious little between a Ferrari and a Porsche..."

I read that whole document.. the trek that they were testing with was from pre 2000 if I'm not mistaken.  They should have taken the latest frames from all the manufacturers... apples with apples!! smileys/smiley2.gif

But then again - Cyclelab through their sub Cycology, are the agents for Trek, while they are only a distributor for Cervelo? Sorry, but from an independancy perspective your argument does not stack up?smileys/smiley5.gif

As far as I can tell the test is from abroad, which thins the case for circumstancial evidence. Pity about the all carbon Cannondale, although the CAAD 9 admittedly performed really well. smileys/smiley2.gif

Man with no name:  Cyclelab are pushing Cervelo way more than Trek... who knows why?!?!

I'd say because Cervelo is very popular at the moment, spoke to the guys at 94.7 and they said sales were booming. How true this is I don't know , but imagine if Ivan Basso wins the Tour, what that will do to Cervelo sales. And I don't know about you guys, but I don't see a Tour winner in the DSC team.

Its amazing how much animosity Cyclelab generates.... anyway, good to see these opinions. Being a good banker, what I normally do is get their advice on bikes etc, then go to Cajees for discount. smileys/smiley1.gif

Michelle, on that point, one may even argue that they push Specialised more than Cervelo, Colnago or Trek together, judging by the size of the Specialised stand in Cyclelab.

I am open to anyone providing counter-evidence suggesting that Cervelo is actually not that hot. At the moment the Cyclelab survey is the best we have...smileys/smiley18.gif

back to the topic... amoryns, much as the scott IS a very nice bike, the "effective" 49 cm is too big for you. the specialised has a long reach - again, you won't get the right fit and size (sorry, but us shorties have to suffer, expecially here in SA where we have and even smaller selection than in europe).

for the size you need (and want.. at least you've done your research) you are stuck with the options of Giant or Raleigh (unless you're looking at spending more than R20k) and in those options there can be only 1 winner. the utter no-brainer option is go for Giant. (if you want to know how the giant rides then come along on our hill ride on saturday and take m babes for a spin - wellgo pedals so look cleats will work fine)
