I so badly wanna go back to Jonkers. like tomorrow. and ride whole damn day. screw work. Best DH track I've ridden. jumps, drops, berms, chutes, braking bumps like i've never experienced (and quickly learnt to just stay off the brakes until it's over), mud so greasy it turns minions into slicks, and Roost everywhere!

one stand out rider for me, was this one youngster: jeans, riding clipped, only helmet, and hockey shin guards. ?Riding a classic Kona Stab with V-brakes. that boy sent it!?

very cool dude, but totally fearless. He podiumed among the juniors, 2nd or third i think it was. Cant wait to see him at the next few rounds, and on a more modern bike ( i'm abit shy to say better, cos that boy was riding that STAB proper like).

one other things i noticed, and it's not the first time I've seen this at a DH competition (cant speak for other cycling events): it's the lack of spectator cheering. It's more like everyone's waiting for a stack (ok, who doesnt go to watch someone bin it?? smiley17.gif), before they let out a groan or two.?

But just for cheering the riders on? Nothing. Sometimes, especially if the track is pedalling, it helps a crapload getting someone cheering you on. Just that little extra boost of spare adrenaline to lop off that extra second or two.

It's kinda weird standing in a forest with ?about 10-15 spectators, and the only noise is the sound of the bike and the marshal's whistle. Not awesome. At all.

Need.

Moar.

Hey guys.

Anyone looking for a neck brace?

I am now the MTB dealer for Omega brace so if you are looking for some neck protection that doesn't look like a toilet bowl give me a shout.

I snapped my chain off the line in my first run. (My legs are just way too strong).

In my 2nd run I was desperate to at least post a time so I go all paranoid about crashing and went way too slow. Anyways. no big crashes and 2 days of downhill fun. what more can you ask for.

To all the guys that didn't come. You really missed out. The track was fast and flowy with loads of features to keep you interested. I doubt that their wil be another oportunity to shuttle that track again this year. 73 people came out and had fun. A huge thanks to Chris and everyone concerned.

The next race is at Sir Lowrys pass on the 26th and 27th of June.

There are no huge road gaps or massive doubles to contend with. The track is fast and flowy with some really cool features like a step up and a hip jump or 2 to keep things interesting. I would have to say Sir Lowrys is probably my favorite track. If you aren't in to the race aspect of the whole thing just do the practice day. Quite a few people do and that's just fine.

The track is on private land so this will more than likely be your only opportunity to legally ride this track all year.

So come on guys. Come do the rest of the provincial races. Trust me. you will be hooked, amped, stoked and all those other words that mean happy.

Yeah that Sir Lowry's track is super I wish I could do it but I realized today that I am going to be in Gansbaai over that weekend. At least I'm going to have enough time now to get some proper gear.

BTW the Jonkershoek race was awesome. My first dh race, I only did the practice session but what a blast, more people should start doing these events.
