I need help please guys' date=' in the context of rear derailours, what is:

"Shadow" and "Rapid Rise"

I know what with my old bike, i used to change up gear with the first finger trigger, and down with the thumb lever thing,

And now on my Nitrous the first finger trigger shifts the gears down, and the thumb lever changes them up.

I prefer changing up with the thumb and down with the 1st finger trigger, what setup is this? (rapid rise? shadow?)

Both bikes have 2 way release deore shifters (rapidfire) and my old one has this xt R/D

and my new Nitrous has this

is this a rapid rise derailour?

help anyone?

Rapid Rise refers to "wrong way around" shifting, in that you go to higher gears (smaller cog) with the thumb, and lower gears (bigger cog) with your index finger.

Shadow refers to the derailleur. It's Shimano's new design that tucks the derailleur up closer to the frame and cassette, moving it out of harms way. It makes it safer as you have less chance of knocking it into things while riding.

First day on the hill yesterday with the new Saint parts. Took a bit of getting used to the new shifter as my old shifter was Rapid Rise, but wow what a difference! Shifts were amazing and chain didn't move from the cogs or jump at all. brakes are bedding in nicely and feel good, nice modulation and not "grabby".

As for the 2006 Boxxer Race, I say go for it! Boxxers are pretty simple forks, and are super easy to service. All it really takes is some new seals and fresh oil every now and then, so as long as you look after these components you shouldn't have any issues even with a 2006 model. My fork was leaking abit of oil from the damping side. Changed the seals and added fresh oil and haven't had a problem since. Then are bullet proof, as long as you take care of them.

Having said that, the 2010 Team is looking more and more tempting everyday... smiley3.gif Eedubz2009-12-21 02:17:40

Ya it's supposed to be knocked down. Just wedge a screw in there and lift a little bit moving around the circle...

And when you put it back on your fork, or next fork you have to knock it down with a piece of wood and a hammer a little bit and go around in a circle a little bit each time..
