Help me choose my All-Mountain hardtail frame

I've been working hard these last few weeks, and as a result the finances are looking better than expected, so I've decided to reward myself with a frame. This will then create a platform to upgrade until I have a really awesome bike.

I've got 2 frames in mind so far:

One the left, the On One Inbred 456, and on the right the Chumba HX1.

Now, the HX1 has many advantages, like the EBB and removable dropouts, but it's a fair bit more expensive. It's actually over budget, but I think it's really sexy so I can justify it.

The 456 is better known in AM circles, and has the novelty of being a steel frame.

So these are the 2 choices so far. My budget for the frame is R3500, which the Chumba does break. I would have loved to add a Chameleon to the list, but they're just too expensive.

Choose one, or make a suggestion!

Not going to mention price on the Chumba, but the On One will cost me almost R2000 less, but like I said I can justify the Chumba.

They're available locally, and they're known to be very good frames overseas.

I think just put your head down and buy it

That's what I'm leaning to. I also like that they're new in SA, which makes them the underdog, and I love supporting the underdog!

Save up and buy the Chameleon Evil%20Smile

You know you want to Wink

Sometimes you have to go with your heart and not your head. If you think about what you spend on tyres, chainsets, brake pads and all that, and take the total price of the final build into account, the price difference is actually not that substantial.

Don't buy something you'll regret later. It took me three bikes to realise that.

My 5c.

I think you may have to look at the ride quality you get from each frame.

Chumba will be stiff and will probably want a supple fork to take out the buzz of the alu frame. The BB and drop outs are a serious bonus.

One one will have that sublime springy feeling that only a steel frame can give. If you are spending a mint on the Chumba, is looking at the 456/Lynskye Inbred Ti and option? That IS a frame for life.

Chameleon is an unreal platform, but it is a seriously harsh ride. This is only due to the fact that it is stiff as all hell, but utterly bomb proof. And that frame will be more than likely a frame for life too...

Besides, why not by 2x On One frames if the pricce is so right, one with vertical drop outs and one with sliding drop outs - you know you can never have to many bikes!

Let us Udders know what you buy and build, as it all in the details

I would go for the inbred, and use the money you save on some pimp components.

But the non-removable dropout on the inbred would make me nervous, especially on a bike that's going to for all intent and purposes be "abused" :)

I ride the on one as a single speed - great geometry and a great feel when you ride it. I can't comment about the other frames.

The Chumba is being delivered to my house today so I can have a look at it. I'm not sure I'll send it back though because I really like it!

I can pick a used one up for R5k' date=' but that's even further over budget. This would be a good choice, but it's simply too expensive.

Nope. TI frames are VERY expensive.

I would look at frames from these guys as well

NS Bikes look awesome, although they're more known for street and DJ.

Right now I'm thinking of just going for the Chumba. It's still very new, so there aren't a lot of reviews, but the ones I could find are all raving about it. It's also very verstile - like the Chameleon.

My first choice whould be a Chameleon...in orange. Big%20smile But thats besides the point.

From your options I will go for the on one. The fact that it doesnt have a replaceable dropout is not an issue. Being a steel frame I dont think it will ever get damaged, if it does fixing it wont be a problem. And its a beautiful frame.

The cash you save will come in handy to build a mean mother effer of an all moutain bike.
