OK so I am not trying to open up the SRAM vs shimano debate, but here goes.

I have an XT shadow equipped bike which is now one year old. In the cupboard I have a brand-new set of X9 rear mech and X0 twist shifters. These where bought for a previous bike and then I got the new one so they have been sitting waiting.

so...

Do I ride the XT till it breaks. (which judging by my last bike is like never, the stuff really seems to last well) or do I take the XT off and flog it and put on the SRAM?

what would a good condition XT rear mech and shifters go for?

I use SRAM on all my bikes so I am prejudiced. I am also realistic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you don't have any hassles with XT then use it until it breaks down. The XO gripshifts with X9 will probably shift  better and I would personally rather use that, personal preference differs and you might not like it.

Use - don't use it - it is up to you.

look I do like gripshift as I had them on my first bike. But I thought in changing now I at least get some cash to spend on some other kit :)

i always say if it aint broke dont fix it !!

however SRAM is the Sh!@# and would recommend to get it ASAP

talking about reliability! i would love to find out how many SRAM Components where replaced/fixed vs Shimano components at the EPIC

my two cents!

I replaced my XT with X9 - unfortuantly not grip shift but triggers and it will take a lot to convince me to return to the Shimano Camp.
