Is a carbon bars/seatpost worth the money vs alu?

Hi

As stated above, is there a huge difference in weight between a good quality carbon bar and seat post versus aluminum??

Considering replacing my Anthem X1 standard race face evolve xc bars and seat post with some carbon.

No. You're gonna look far and spend alot of money to get carbon stuff at the same weight and strength as alu bars and seatpost.Mampara2009-09-02 07:54:44

Carbon might look bling, but its expensive and not always lighter. Carbon doesn't like taking knocks either and it breaks rather than bends when its tired.

A Thomson seatpost is always a nice upgrade but its not a whole lot lighter than your Race Face Evolve.

Thanks.

Just looking at ways to lighten my bike.

Probably best to save the cash and put it towards a lighter set of wheels.

Yup, better to save weight there anyway. Get TCRCarbons XTR's!!

You have to look at these 3 ratio's; Weight, Price, Strength. You need to find a balance between the 3 in order to buy the best for your budget. For me the most important aspect of a bike is its Wheel set, then comes the Groupset and then the frame.. then all the other bits and pieces of your choice.

With the seatpost.. steel, alu , carbon you wont even notice the difference. With the handle bars you the only difference you will feel is the stiffeness.

Because something is carbon doesn't mean its necessarily light. My alu bike weigh less than my friends carbon.

In order to save weight you need to spend money, every gram will cost you about R10.00. So 1kg will set you back R10 000.00. For the same strength. Perhaps you could spend less time in the kitchen and more time in the toilet? Much cheaper.

Everyone wants cheap, light and strong. Pick any two, but only two.
