I have a choice of 3 bikes, all in the same price range.

 

Which is a better Buy?

 

GT Avalanche Expert<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Parts ? SRAM X9 parts, Rockshox Tora fork, Juicy 3 H/D brakes

 

Specialized Rockhopper

Parts ? Shimano Deore/ LX, Rockshox Duke fork, Juicy 5 H/D brakes

 

Trek 4900

Parts ? Shimano Deore/LX parts, Rockshox Pilot fork, Hayes H/D brakes

Also, the service kits for the Duke fork aren't locally available anymore. Found this one out the other day... I'd recommend you check with Cape Cycle Systems for the Pilot too.

You are essentially buying a Frame here - Buy the best frame and geometry - the parts will change as you upgrade/wear them out.

 

Specialized would be my choice.

And how strong is that frame?? built for extra hard riding

 

If you manage to break a GT Avalanche frame you are doing something truly extraordinary. Those things are bullet proof alu. Nothing like the carbon...
