ASTANA Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 What pedals do you use ? I currently have some Shimano model on my XC bike. Works really well, but a combination with this and road cycling aggravated my ITB pain so I switched on road to Speedplays - more float is great. On the MTB I am thinking Crank brothers - eggbeaters - but heard that they don't like rocks - thus break easily ?? Other pedal I know that is good - Look Quartz - but not sure how it compares to the eggbeaters Thoughts ?
Trubie Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Shimanogot them cheap on the hubonly ridden the bike 4 xhit plenty rocks - thus far they seem to be just fine....also use shimano on road bike
Mudsimus Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=59497&KW=pedal
Candz Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I been told to go for the Ryder...apparantly they are cheapest on the market and long way from being "cheap and nasty"..
Mudsimus Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I wont go for the ryders. The Shimanos are only a few rand more expensive, but will outlast the Ryders by years.
GTfan Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Shimano, def not Crank Brothers Egg Beaters.. my bro-law has them and you can't even adjust them, so clipping out is quite a mission
Slowbee Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 the reason I use the shimano's is that they came with the bike.
Hog_ Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 CB Candies for when I'm clipping in, Shimano DX flats for when I'm being a lunatic.
AndreZA Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Crank brothers and Look Quarts does not have float like Shimano does. Okay, I know you CB and Look lovers have raised the pitch fork already, but go and look at the mechanism. With Shimano you've got a bit play where the cleat does not touch the clamps (lets call it that) and this gives you the float. On CB and Look, the float is in the cleat but it is not free. The float they talk about is basicaly release angle. The cleats are always in contact with the clamps as soon as you rotate your foot, to have a bit of play, you have actually started the unclipping procedure. Please prove me wrong as this is how I've experienced it.
JPW# Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Shimanos hate abuse ,3 hard races in the mudd and they look like...small iron balls haha..but I love them
SwissVan Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Time ATACHave used time for +/- 10yrs and never tried another brand. Next time (pun not intended) will look at another model once these are kaput or new bike arrives.
SwissVan Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Seeing that mud is not a living thing, how exactly does it manage to "EVACUATE" the pedal?
Mr LOOK Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Seeing that mud is not a living thing, how exactly does it manage to "EVACUATE" the pedal?......That's the French for you. They're just trying to state that there's no obstruction.....and the mud "flows" through the pedal.
