Cyclists behaving ...... badly!!!!!!

I had the same problem with the cyclist this weekend and last weekend on that stretch of road. At one staged I had to stop and hoot because I couldn't get past at all. They didn't even acknowledge I was there. If anyone gets knocked over in this area it is there own fault.

Maybe this photographer should use a bakkie and put a camera tripod on the back - this way he can take a pic of their faces and post them here.

Wish I had time to drive around and report on people behaving badly.

I mean this is a issue (cyclist trying to own the road)  - so is taxi's driving like its their own yard and so for most of normal traffic.

Just think this fall's into the "wearing a helmet" category - its your own thing if you get hit by a car of mugged  and assaulted for driving in the middle of the road tough luck buddy. Same goes for falling without a helmet and crashing your car without a safety belt .

"Nie pille vir dom wees nie"

not so ?

Stevo - How would you react if it was a big hairy farmer driving his tractor towing a trailer loaded with cattle?

8 pages of people misunderstanding each other...

Are cyclists allowed on public roads? yes

Do cyclists put their lives in mortal danger by using public roads? yes

Does Big H have the right to warn fellow cyclist that they are taking a big risk by riding outside of the yellow line? yes

Watching fellow hubbers launch personal attacks on each other even though they actually agree on a point: priceless.

It's all just lost in cultural translation.

A typical boer would say: "gee pad uit die pad uit of ek donner vandag nog vir jou"

Translation: "Please move out of the road, I am concerned for your safety"

What qualifies me to make this translation? I am a boertjie; just without the 2 tone shirt and pumpkins under my arms and the Afrikaans accent when speaking English.

Take pictures and send a letter of complaint to the Landbou Weekblad.

I think the main issue here is 'CYCLISTS RIDING 2 or 3 ABREAST' with no regard for other traffic.

It's wrong, selfish, senseless and typical South African mentality of late.

I shed no tears if they get Ouch.

Just gives those of us who cycle decently a 'BAD' name.

The farmer is doing as his job and the cyclist on that road is just doing it for fun.

So you would not use him for traction cause he's doing his job?

Even though he could move over into the emergency lane (temporily) to allow you to pass.

It took me a couple of pages to realise that you are all serious about this.

Surely the thread should be called "cyclists behavin nicely & normally".

They look very ok to me and i wouldnt have any problem with that kind of riding if i was the one driving behind them.

But then I was vegetarian for a while.

& from Europe where, generally, the smaller you are on the road, the more rights you (rightly) have.

We highlight a problem and everyone goes off at us but not one of you guys have made a effort to do anything about.

Stevo

There is a difference between highlighting and threatening.

Just remember one thing: that person out there is a human being on a bicycle, who is most probably on his way home to a wife and kids. Would you like to tell his 5 year old daughter that her daddy is not there anymore cause you would rather try and squeeze by, in stead of braking and being delayed for 10 seconds?

Why do you think cyclist react like this? No-one else is looking out for us, but us.

Just go on here and rather be polite and then see what happens.

Discuss (or highlight) the issue. Don't describe how we will be used as traction.

What fully grown man will go out and resolve an issue by telling other ppl how he will put their lives in danger, just to prove a point?

Or are we all going back to the dark ages where human live had no value ... respect did not exist ... and tolerance, well, you get the picture.

SwissVan - you so right about Zug and other educated non barbaric societies been a parades for cycling. After 2 days in Zug I even decided it was not necessary to wear a helmet - something I have been wearing while cycling in RSA for at least 20 years - and would not leave home without it! I Suppose it all comes down to crime and the lack of respect many South Africans have for human life and the current crime stats are not doing very well in RSA.

We... Whose we?

Actually "youse" need to chill, there are far worse things in life than a few slow moving objects in the road.
