Depends on how you training now? You can train all you want, intervals or long distance, but if you training by yourself you'll never be fast enough. Best thing to do is train with others and you'll find yourself working harder to keep up and/or drop them. And if you are training with people but not getting anywhere, try joining a faster group... it's the only way to speed up!

I tend to agree with EigerSA, I've gradually started becoming faster just by riding with faster people who push me out of my comfort zone (a lot of the time, they're unaware that they're doing it Embarrassed)

 

But I do think it also boils down to what SC called 'muscle memory', the more time you spend on your bike, the faster you're likely to become. You can't ride once a week or every other week and expect exceptional results

Yes and no.

 

I train mostly by myself and speed up by doing speed work, it can be done alone.

 

I agree however that riding with faster groups helps but the problem with this is that people ride way above their ability too often and slowly suffer burn out.

Beford changing blades gearing etc,its better to ride with others,prefarably people stronger than you are.Dont start with the real fast guys,but build upwards as you go along

I agree with you, people need to use common sense as well, if you're getting dropped 15min into the ride then the groups too fast/strong for you. I trained by myself quite a bit, but it was only with my 1st race that I realised how slow I was. I think 'pacing' is the real answer here... being able to speed up momentarily is all well and good, but if your average pace is off then you got trouble. Getting into a group that averages at a faster pace then you will automatically force you too work harder and in time and with patience your average pace will speed up as well.

So true, saw today some start the race with a avg speed of 30km/h after 50km into the race they fall back & you do not see them again. Start way to fast/hard

No No No.....

 

it was 39.2km/h and 30min35 ... ConfusedCry

On the D2D it was 50.8km/h and 4min20... LOLCry

 

to go fast for long all you need are basically 3 things

BIG lungs

BIG heart

BIG quads
