SwissVan Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Based on the photo's and the area I think you are refering to... not cracked. How long have you had the bike before you saw this? Apply hard thumb / finger pressure to the area and if it flexes then be worried. Try a coin tap test on the otherside where it is supposedly not cracked and then over the suspected cracked area, compare the sound you hear from both sides, hopefully the sound is the same as from the not cracked side...

techguy Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 It could be your BB needs grease or the pedal/crank interface needs grease, a creak can be a lot of things, a cracked frame will be one of them, but I've had bikes creak because the skewer wasn't tight...

I bought a carbon fork, thought it might be cracked, had it x-rayed and it did turn out to be cracked - JUST NOT ON THE PLACE I THOUGHT, but actually on a section that looked perfectly fine. I guess there is no certain way of knowing other than x-raying the thing
