To clarify, lest the speculation get out of hand...

"Specialized Quality Assurance and Engineering have identified that the Brain reservoir mounts on the models noted have inadequate material to support the Brain for the expected life of the frame."

No affected bikes have been sold in SA. Replacement stays are already en route and the bikes will be rectified before distribution.

Which factory are these bikes built in? Are other brands built in the same factory?

I can remember a thread when I first hooked up on the hub about the history of certain brands could be interesting to see who builds what again.

Anyone know how this will affect the timing of delivery. I was looking at the 29er (which is not affected bu the issue), and want to see if this is going to affect that delivery?

Understand cycleq - unless they delay the shipping of the container,  and like everything else, SA goes to the back of the queue.....

So what is the weight of the Brain then, and how much support could it possibly need? In my mind not a lot. Would like to see a side by side comparison of the replacement and the original chainstay see where the additional material went to understand the problem.

For 2010, the Brain mounting tab was moved closer to the rear axle and there was a design modification to the mounting tab.  This design modification resulted in less material at a stressed point. BTW there are a total of 8 failures to date wordwide and no recorded accidents or injuries (as of last week).

Bad design? Or someone slipped up?

I can't see how this slipped through the tests at the factory without them picking it up.......lets a person think about the testing and research that really goes into a frame or is it all just marketing???
