Hi guys

Thanks for all the reply's my personal experiance was great with Reba up to date , just found mine to also constantly leak small amounts of oil from lock-out.

I like the feel of the fox at the moment and wanted to know how the two compare to eachother.

As for the 100mm to 80mm travel on xc and marathon rideing and being a less than 70kg rider is it correct to say 80mm is more than enough?

Thanks

I ride a Reba and weigh 105kgs, and I am not the most gentle rider out there, I ride hard and rough, this fork just keeps begging for more, never bottomed out or leaked a drop, I once went 15 months without a service (Not wise) and still no k@k. I have never rode Fox so my experience is not entirely subjective. But I wont ever change.

[/quote'] I nealry forgot, Reba (All top end Rock Shox models) are fully customizable you can run them at 80mm, 100mm or 120mm all you do is take out/add a little plastic spacer in the shock and viola!

I have ridden both... My HT had a 80 mm Fox RL. My previous soft tail had a reba. They are both great.

The Fox is a better performer - service every 6 months

The Reba, a better laster - leaked a little oil at first but once settled was fine.

My current Soft tail has the Fox, RLC 100. No issues with that fork, only that it arrived dry, with no seals. Once replaced, at no cost to me. It is great.

Maybe it has something to do with the batch of seals?

I have a couple guys that had their fox forks serviced and within six months( and one of them not a lot of riding) the seals were leaking oil.

I Ride a Marzocchi and love it.

They had some problems with their catridges in 2008.

The thing I like the most about is that both fox and rockshox has only got one seal and the foam ring. The seal is the oil seal ad dust wiper.

Marzocchi has a double lip dust wiper and and a seperate oil seal.

Mampara, but don't think that your next service in a year's time will produce the same result. Those seals have now deteriorated and the second service life has been reduced. Also, it depends on how much dust and water your ride in. It makes a huge difference. Poofters who only ride on the tar in good weather find that the oil is still clear after even two years. Not that I'm saying.....

TzMTB, your case is one of an ostrich with his head in the sand. You have no idea what goes on inside that fork and the fact that you've ridden it for 8 months and done nothing, shouldn't be an indication of the fork's robustness. Damage is internal and mostly invisible until you open the fork.  Have it serviced (preferrably do it yourself) so that you can see what your type of riding has done to the oil. That will give you an indication of how often to service it for your riding style/environment.

Matchstix, the trend is to replace the foam ring with an oil seal, just like Marzocchi has done years ago. I like it, a badly contaminated foam ring is a ring of sandpaper, whereas an oil seal doesn't accumulate dirt.

You'll see that aftermarket Enduro seals replace the foam ring with an oil seal for Rox and for Fox they add an oil seal and put in a narrow foam ring. The latter apparently to avoid lawyers' letters from Fox who claims that it shouldn't be done.

Also' date=' I want to ride the Caminho de Santiago so gonna need something sturrdy.

In that case, you need something simple like a ridig fork on a road bicycle. If you want, you can beef it all up with a fat tyre. Try one of Specialized 32 (actually only 28mm) road tyres. That's good enough for the Camhino.

Did marzocchi ever have a foam ring?

Remember on the old Z2 atoms( one of the best fork everin my opinion)

you could find seals for them at the local bearing place.

Is there someone that imports the enduro seals?

'Ts true... I just received a shipment yesterday. I have Fox and Rox 32mm, and Rox 28mm seals in stock. Still waiting for Fox 36mm stock to arrive.

Rush Sports (the Morewood guys) were/are going to do the seals and the bearings. Has not heard anything about that yet.

Yeah, I know Johan, I have a tendency to ignore issues until they jump up and bite me in the a$$.

I am going on holiday in a few weeks and my bike will be sent in for a complete service including the fork and shock.

Going to see if I can learn to to it myself early next year.
