The ride is still on for tonight.

I tried to get the Dabs clubhouse keys for drinks afterwards, but they are having their committee meeting tonight.

See you all there.

The AR club last month

hosted a meeting where discussion ensued about a form of Dark n Dirty ride to

be held in Johannesburg. The meeting was well attended and a full report can be

found at http://www.ar.co.za/arclub/nightrides.html

. The nature would be an introductory ride specifically aimed at those

individuals who were unaccustomed to riding trails at night and would

approximately be 25 km?s.

The first of what we hope

will be many rides took place last night (5 June) from Dabulamanzi Canoe Club

and an excellent turnout of 26 riders (25 bikes including a new tandem) took to

the trails of Northern Johannesburg.

Leaving at 18:50, the route

last night flowed through Montgomery Park into Alberts Farm utilising existing

singletrack where we stopped for a snapped chain. After repairing the chain, we

made our way to the highest point of the farm and descended on some sweet

singletrack across the wooden bridge to the entrance of Alberts. As Adventure Racers

we had to make the ride slightly interesting and did some ?bundu bashing? (does

the term ?sny a lyn? ring a bell?) after losing the single track on a couple of

occasions.

After leaving the Farm, we

made our way down the Braamfontein Spruit crossed a couple of intersections and

up into Delta Park where we wound our way past the dams to the highest point

before descending back down to the Spruit through the trees.  From there we retraced our steps all the way

back along the Spruit until we reached Emmarentia Dam and the Dabs clubhouse.

We did lose one person early

on due to mechanical problems and a couple peeled off the route to cycle home

but all those who started finished the ride in the condition they started and

the first aid kit wasn?t needed.

Total distance was just

short of 24 k?s and we were back at the clubhouse before 21:00.

Was great to see some Hubbers there,  Bored Girl, Cat-I and Mampara

Dude, that was soooo much fun. The first day MichH, Slowpoke and Amateur took me for a ride, I never thought that off-road could be so much fun. The initial layout for lights is worth it for this experience.

why dont you start the ride at the 4X4 protea park in krugersdorp (where that onerace starts going to the botanical gardens). There is a lekker shopping centre just across the road.....
