Cruxpearl, you are dead right. And the policeman did not try to slow Jaja down, he tried to take a photo. But as all policeman are, they suffer with 3-dimentional vision, and he misjudged the speed of the sprint. Jaja broke his jaw and on his comeback never sprinted again, but became the superb climber that made him famous.

Psycho have you noticed how quiet MWNN has been today?  He's been PM me, with apologies - but based on: I'll apologise if you do.  Pretty weird.

In ordinary cycling races - funrides and such, there's also some jostling which can lead to carnage.  Usually it's a total idiot, but sometimes it's a rider trying to show someone else his status.  Not exactly terrorism, unless, of course you lose your cornea, or rip off your ear.

Since cycling can be done by almost everyone (you don't really need a special talent as you do for say swimming, running or ball sense as in soccer or rugby) it means it's a fairly level playing field.  Even the old toppies think they can push people around and show them who is boss.  (until the next big hill) It's sort of funny.  It's part of what makes it a fun sport.

Some of the African riders in the Free State really take each other out, mostly verbally.  They give each other a lot of hell, but what they're fussing about I can't say.

Just wondering. What special talent do you need to run?

have u ever seen swimmers run?  I mean very good swimmers.  Usually they have proportionately more upper body strength, and are bigger, and taller.  runners tend to be slight and wiry - generally speaking.  does that make sense of do i need to explain further?

are you being difficult on purpose?

triathletes understand this, because triathletes (usually) can either run or swim.  Perhaps I should add the word 'well' to that, but one assumes you get the general idea.

The best triathletes are either naturally talented at both running and swimming, or learn to master the one they're not so good at, which is very difficult, because as I say, the body is designed a certain way.

Cycling is different.  You can have a big upper body, be tall or short, and you can still be a good cyclist if you just go and do your homework.  Look at guys like Indurain and then you get tiny guys like Pantani also winning the Tour.  However you are put together, you can then concentrate on what you're good at - whether it's sprinting, or climbing etc. and you'll find your niche in cycling.  Hence, you don't need talent the way you do in swimming or running - TO DO WELL.  It helps a lot more in those sports, though it's fair to say that if you work hard enough at anything, even where you have little natural talent, you can do well.

In Lance's case, I'm really not sure what he wasn't good at.  He swam well, and he ran well.  He's one of those exceptional people.

You dont make sense. Runners arnt stereotyped as skiny and wiry. What about guys like Micheal Johnson and all the guys doing the 100, 200 and 400m track events? They are all sprinters, just like in cycling were the bigger guys are normally sprinters. You get exeptions in both cycling and running.

No cycling is not different, you are genetically pre-disposed to be a good type of rider, as with runners. 100m sprinters generally don't do well in marathons but they are both runners.

A policeman once stepped in front of Abdujappirhof (spell it like you say it LOL) in an effort to slow him down in a sprint... there was a very loud bang' date=' lots of blood and skin lost.... it was a very bad idea Wink[/quote']

I think you referring to Wilfrid Nelisen who crashed in 1995 in sprint fin of day 1. Abdo actually won the stage.  He did crash hard once on the chante e'lysis but that was his own fault. They had to carry him over the line to so that he could fin the stage and claim his green jersey.
