Mine are done and must get new ones. But it seems that new jockey wheels cost almost the same as a Rival rear derailleur!  Any other components that can be used as a substitute for sram jocky wheels?

I'm using force at the moment.

As far as I know' date=' a jockey wheel's a jockey wheel. Any aftermarket one should work.[/quote']

Not really, there are functional differences which could result in issues.

A jockey wheel isn't just a jockey wheel.

Firstly, some of the SRAM ones have eccentric mounting scews so those where the axle and the mounting scew is one and the same, won't work. They're brand-specific.

Secondly, many of these aftermarket jockeys have ball bearings. It's a rubbish application for a ball bearing. You actually want a plain bearing (journal bearing or bush) in there. Original Campag and Shimano jockey wheels are well made. They have ceramic bushes running on steel axles and one or two other tricks to make them fit-and-forget items.

Good jockey wheels are also position specific and although the top and bottom one will look the same, they will be market Top and Bottom. The difference is that the top one (the guide pulley) will have lateral play to compensate for out-of-tune gear settings and make the gears run quieter. The bottom one (the tension pulley) will have no lateral play.

The best upgrade in jockey wheels is to stick with the original Shimano or Campag. Some SRAM ones are proprietary and you therefore have no choice and hence, the high price.
