Chris Willemse Posted December 15, 2009 Share The best cyclist that I have ever seen in South Africa, Alan van Heerden past away this afternoon. Johny Koen and myself called him earlier today to wish him the best of luck after his operation , but unfortuanatly he was not available and we left a message on his mobile. Never did we know that he would never get this message. I were very fortunate to ride against him, to stay with him for a few months during 1975 and still being in contact with the "Idol" as most of us called him. He was always clean on himself , clean on his bike . Lets not say anything bad against the greatest cyclist that South Africa has ever produced. All I can say. Brakkies Sport Fotos Posted December 16, 2009 Share What a shock. Saw him in the interview on S/S about 2 weeks ago and though about him and ertjies in the Rapport tour. Can still remember the day when they finish in Jansenville. Ou school closes for that day and I was only waiting for him and Ertjies to finish that stage. I think it was 1974 or 1975. I still remember that I tried to get as close as possible to them, just to look and live the moment.
