You need 2 tools, first is a chain whip to stop the cassette from turning and the second is a locking ring spanner which looks a bit like a socket but fits into the splines on the cassette locking ring.

Do you have these?

I got no tools.......LBS tomorrow then?

'Fraid so, it's worth buying a few tools, saves a lot of hassle and they aren't that expensive. Cassette replacement is really easy.

Make sure that you buy the correct socket to remove your cassett. My road socket does not fit my MTB cassett. Hector2009-12-22 09:15:12

I've tried looking through CRC's listings to get a better idea of what socket's to buy, but they don't specify what cassette they're for... I have Shimano on my mtb, campy on my road bike and probably changing both the SRAM in the near future, does this mean I need 3 or 4 different tools or is there a universal one available?

There're only two types of cassette tool: Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo compatible. Some of them might have a pin in the middle to aid alignment.

The Campag cassette tools are sometimes called BB tools since Campag uses the same splines on their cassette lockrings and pre-UltraTorque BBs.
