I know I'm being prejudiced here and am flying off  the handle with zero evidence' date=' but with the level of heavy duty driving skills and the general attitude of the practitioners thereof, I hope someone lands up in jail on a murder charge for this one.

My condolences to family & friends...

the young driver, was arrested on the scene ...

i just can't help but feel very sorry for him too --- as we have recently had a recent experience, i just know that accidents DO happen -- we have just been spared this kind of terrible end to it ....

Two dead on a tandem - evidently they were hit by a truck on the N2.

Sad news indeed. If it was the N2, is it not illegal for cyclists to travel on a National road? A horrible reminder that rules are there for a reason, irrespective of who is at fault.

wasnt on the N2, as far as I understood, please correct Ronelle.

was on the Oudshoorn road on the way to Eight Bells.

There is a shoulder on that road for about 17km before it becomes narrow

Cycling couple?s murder case postponed

Eyewitness News | 57 Minutes Ago

The case against a southern cape truck driver believed to be responsible for an accident which killed two cyclists has been postponed until next year.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Thirty eight-year-old William Taylor briefly appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate?s Court on Wednesday on culpable homicide charges.

Stanley and Juliet Leslie were run over while riding on their tandem bicycle on Tuesday, some 20 kilometers from the town.

<?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Taylor allegedly hit the Durbanville couple from behind.

?The accused appeared in court this morning in connection with this case of culbable homicide. The case was postponed to 3 March 2010,? said the police?s Wollie Fourie.

Meanwhile, a close family friend told Eyewitness News that she is devastated at the death of her friends.

Janine Kennedy said she is still in shock.

?It is like it cannot be them. All their family is really shocked and heart sore. It is really devastating,? she said.

have you noticed how a shark attack will make international news? many times it will make front page local newspapers and get, at the very least, a mention on the evening news, if not a short report. Many people feel absolute anger and hatred towards the shark, and wish a thousand kinds of deaths upon it.  Yet the death of a cyclist, i.e. a human being, by the hands of another human being behind the wheels of a motorised vehicle is most often met by the non cycling world with an attitude of "serves them right, bloody fools, always riding two abreat, etc" or, just plain indifferance.  Humans are a strange bunch sometimes.

From the family I would like to extend our appreciation for the words of support and sympathy. This has been a nightmare!

Please let us know where the funeral will be held.

If the funeral will be for family only, strangers welcome?

Can one arrange a Mass cycle to the Funeral?

My deepest sympathy with your loss. Been down that same road within this past month knowing that no amount of rage and anger at the other party will ever replace the ones you have lost.

I pray that God will support and strengthen you during this trying time.
