Hi all Hubbers!

Going to be riding the 65km loop from the Protea Hotel gate at Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve on Saturday 9 January 2010. As there will be a few Hubbers doing this ride' date=' why not make it a Hub ride for anyone! LOL

Hum - Kieran has already offered a lift so there is the alternative. Wink

Cat-i - With the present attendance list there can be no ride, only a race! If I attended it would be even more of a race!

Hummingbird, if you need a lift let me know. I'm going to drive to SBR to ride there

cat-i, it is only a  race if you race... some people just want to ride faster than others... You dusting off the road bike for this?

I might join you guys.... on my MTB

Now there is an idea... I'm told that SBR is all downhill.... maybe I'll need hydraulic disk brakes to keep the speed in check smiley1.gif

Hummingbird: stop letting out state kept secrets like my inability to climb. It does not fit well with my new image for the year. (Ah well at least I look good going uphill nowadays.

Reason for my not doing this ride is simple. training on hills for a fast "flat" race is daft. (Accordong to GO and I think he knows a bit more tha me.) I also need to do a few distance rides on the new bike since I haven't done any yet. Fast one is about 105 km and I need to do at least 3 120 km rides before then. I also need to do some speed work (not that I can ride fast anyway, but I need to do the drills anyway and try to sustain speed for a longer period of time if I am to go sub 3 at the fast one.

Ok, ok, I know, it's the fast one for everyone else. For me it's the slow one.

Oxman. There are some awesome downhills in the reserve. I got just shy of 80 on one of them last time around. Thing is we all know that to get to the point of going downhill, we have to get to the top. That last long downhill section in the cheetah loop is AMA-ZZZZZZZZZZZing. Once you get there, you know you have done a small amount of climbing and you derserve the joy of doing some low flying down that section.

Just be wary of the first long twisty downhill section towards the dam closer to the beginning of the ride though. Some of the road cambers are adverse and if the wind is blowing as it usually does, it makes for some very "interesting riding".

And be careful of the bump at the bottom of that descent on the righter. My rear wheel has bounced and locked up virtually everytime.

The descent on the Cheetah Loop you can do at a good speed without any braking!

Andy/Slave you'll also have great practice for those downhills at the fast one.

My riding SBR is all depending on the weather, if there is even a dark cloud near by there is no way I'm going to the reserve.

There is no chance I want to be doing the loop and then the heavens open.

Imagine going down those hills in the wet, no thanks.

And at this stage the weather man is predicting rain for Saturday.
