I installed my first 10sp Masterlink yesterday, but found it very difficult. In the end I had to use pliers with force.

Is there an easier way to do this?

I have installed quite a few 9sp links on my mtb.

Was using SRAM 10sp link yes.

Will ask kiwi thanks.

The problem with this is, how do you do it while out cycling, because they are suppose to help me in case of emergency.

I always carry a old piece of cable with me for this exact reason, when dirt and mud get into the 9spd link its also stiff as hell. rap the cable around the 2 rollers that the link slots into(like a loop-de-loop for lack of a better term), and pull hard...works everytime

The 9 spd link is loosened by first squeezing the 2 outer plates together then sliding them apart. the Sram 10 spd is not removable like the 9 spd it is is a perma repair link and needs to be removed with a chainbreak tool.

All in the instructions on the packaging

What can happen on a ride that will require you to take your chain off? Normally a chain breaks and you install a quick link, not remove it.

Look at my first post.

My problem was to install the link, not remove it.

I was just on plant-X website and they sell for R17 - YBN version.

That's cheaper than what I paid for on CRC.

[/quote'] You need to attach the link then whilst astride the bike and with both brakes locked step onto the pedal quite forcefully which will allow the link to snap into place...

OK, there's a way of doing it.

Thanks

I just hope people won't think I'm trying to kickstart my bicycle.Smile
