Want to fit a roadie cassette (9 spd) to my MTB to increase leg stregnth during training.

Will it work?

Is it a *** idea?

Has anyone done this? if so, how did it go?

Peace Out

On my mtb I have a cassette made up out of sprockets that started life as part of various road cassettes... just make sure they're all HG...

yes, you can.

The spacing and everything is the same. Just different ratios.

FYI: If your derailleur can handle it you can put an MTB cassette on your road bike

Is the 44\11 not enough?
It's more for leg stregnth training, hopefully give me more "torque" or maybe make me walk moreLOLLOL But if I can get up hills in a smaller cog at the back, I will be quicker.

Shimano?
yebo' date=' I have a XTR cassette on my MTB currently. Which cassette would you advise?[/quote']

For me it's easy, I have about 200 indivudual HG shimano 9 speed sprockets, so I make up any cassette I want. If you gonna buy a single cassette, get the cheapest you can, cheapie shimano or look at BBB?

I replaced my old Merida TFS 500 and converted it to a semi road bike. I put a 11-21 cluster on the back, changed the front rings to 28-38-48 and put on slicks. Works like a bomb. The slicks allow you to ride on tar and if you get pushed off the road or need to ride good dirt roads for training, you can do so. I do all my training on a MTB but only race road (sub 3hr Amashova) - live in the Transkei where the roads are bad. For extra strength training try riding the MTB on shorter road races ie 50km - keeping up with the roadies is hard work but good training. Hope it helps
