linnega Posted March 26, 2006 Share Whats most worrying is that the Time VRX that Boonen rides is one of the stiffest bikes on the market. If he is able to screw up his rear shifting on that bike then its a good thing he is not riding something made in Spain or the US?!
Christie Posted March 27, 2006 Share Perhaps campy / whiperman should try to design a custom chain for monsters like Boonen, Peta etc. Make it a bit heavier, but from stronger metals - there are very strong steels / titanium / other exotic materials available. Velouria Posted March 31, 2006 Share Tom Boonen has switched to a sturdier frameafter problems with his drivetrain in several race-ending sprints. Itseems the powerful Belgian world champion was flexing the frame so muchthat the chain wasn't behaving. The problem didn't, however, stop himfrom winning a dozen times already this season. Tornado Tom ridesframes supplied by Time, sponsor of his Quick Step team. It's alsoknown that another powerful road sprinter, Alessandro Petacchiof Team Milram, rides a beefed-up, custom-designed Colnago Extreme C2carbon frame that isn't available to the public. The frame has specialreinforcements at the bottom bracket, head lugs and fork and weighs1,340 grams (without fork) in the Italian star's unusual size (54.5-cmseat tube and 58.5-cm top tube).
