I had a little high speed lie down at the fast one yesterday. Riding a borrowed bike with Fox RLC fork and Mountain king on the front. I need to blame something else other the me for this fall cos my faithful Rockshox and Monorail would never have let go so badly. I was turning off gravel road onto single track and bang! Down like 80kg bag of feathers.... So tell me is it the Mountain king that is *** or the shock settings or what? What is the ideal pressure for the Mountain king tyre and Fox at my weight? Please don't tell me I was riding like a D**s even if I probably was. I need my equipment to be in optimum settings to make up for any lack of talent. Bye now.

You may want to check the tyre pressure.  I had the same problem with my mountain king.  In the Attakwas I was all over the place until I let a bit of air out.  It seems much better.

Unfortunately I can't tell you what pressure I'm running 'cause I simply don't know (no pressure gauge).  I play around until I find the sweet spot.

I find the Maxxis monorail for the front (crossmark rear) grips MUCH better around corners then the Mountain Kings. The mountain kings were great in the muddy conditions in Barberton this weekend, but the cornering felt not as good as compared with the monorails i ussually have on the front.

jees dude, the other day there was a discussion about the pros and the cons of the UST against tubes. one of the main focus point were that one can run the USTs on lower pressures with more resultant grip.....BUT I weigh the same as you do and my rims bump thoroughly with the front end swishing around at anything less than 2,5 Bar. the front end is due to the tyre folding in turns. Is the bumping and the loose front end what you're use to?

You were riding like a D**s.....  Did you mention that you probably pulled your front brake? LOL You didnt chech tire pressures or fork setup.... It was moer of a funny. Dont blame the tire as I managed to swerve and miss the yard sale you set up in the middle of the road.....Wink

I Run a Mountain King UST up front, anything from 1.8 -2.1 Bar and have never had issues and I weigh more than you. maybe check your tire pressure gauge L'Bie....

Can you honestly say you rode the line correct and the way you would have with your bike? Front wheels slide out because they are no loaded. This can be due to body position or maybe rebound too light.

Could have a point there, it does feel a bit pogo stickish compared to my bike, OPC having put more thought into it I was never on the brakes there. I will check the tyre pressure again and report back. If there is indeed no fault with the tyre/fork/bike setup then I must go play lawn bowls cos grass burns hurt less than gravel bites.

I'm on edge with the mountain kings. To me, the nobbies on the tire seem very weak compered to say the Maxxis Ignitors I had. The Ignitors gave awesome grip with 2.0-2.4bar of pressure, but I struggled with speed. The MKs on the other hand seems a bit "nowhere".

I'm not very confident with them on the gavel because the front does seem a bit gripless...however, I ghetto'ed the MKs yesterday and will test them this afternoon and see if they are any better....

Another Ignitor fan and Pro-bike refuses to bring them in. I loved mine and also rates them above the Mountain Kings. I want to try the Aspen next and see how that goes.
