99'r : Ladies, Ladies,...ladies

Whether they are racing to win or not does not change their average racing speed' date=' which means they can race for the win in a group with similar speed....[/quote']

A standard response from Jules when I ask him what time he did at a particular race he always says "Pros race for position not time". It is all tongue in cheek these days, but it is obviously something that people that ride/rode for pro teams get taught.

And what you are saying is that we should only have open groups....So I can then start moaning about the old dude that I pass and always starts in the licenced bunches....I'm sure you've seen him: sandals, normal shorts with a belt and collared shirt...Why doesn't he start after me? I am obviously faster than him???

Let them start in Vets, and enforce a short timed break [up to a minute ?]between WL and Vets after the first hour, or before the first hotspot. Those women that can bridge the gap deserve to be there, and if not they can still make a decent race of it. The first hour of racing with the Vets should at least allow for them to up their game a bit and make the bunch starting logistics easier. Marshalling needs to be fine tuned on this though.

Let's do a quick check of the TT results between 30-34 and 35-39 VS Cashandra (winner Elite Women). They both completed 30km (I'm assuming they did the same route and that conditions were similar)!

Cashandra's Time: 43.20

30-34 results:

1CHRISTIE ENGELBRECHT     42:33.4

2BRAND DU PLESSIS     42:36.4

3     ROBERT QUINN     42:36.7

4     JEFFREY KRIEL     42:53.6

5     JACO FERREIRA     43:34.3

6     PHILIP FOURIE     43:42.8

7JACQUES VAN STADEN     46:10.5

Mmm 5th - she beat Jaco - not bad smiley2.gif

Results 35-39:

1 LUKE PHEIFFER     41:28.7

2 CRAIG HARVEY     41:43.2

3 JOHAN LABUSCHAGNE     42:10.0

4 CHARLES PRITCHARD     42:13.6

5 DAVID LABUSCHAGNE     42:38.3

6 PAUL OLIVIER     43:37.2

7 ADAM SARGENT     43:49.9

That would have placed her 6th!

And Cashandra is not a youngster anymore, she will fit nicely into the 30-34 group.

Remember the Amashova of two years back? She got away at the top of a climb in the rain and mist, and TT'ed about 80km and put almost 5 minutes into the peleton. Not many men can boast about that. (not that she ever will, she is too modest for that)

Was this post not spesific to the W/Cape girls in the 99?r.?

I think it's a general comment as there were quite a few top ladies present from all over the country, i.e. the complete Bizhub team, Jennie, Anriette and Ashleigh (she's a local) and a few others.

We are actually saying the same thing - no matter what sex, age or gear, if we start people in roughly similar groups of cycling speed, that would smooth out the flow. Again, Barberton being a good example, whereas a less competitive event such as Babbas Lodge gives you the opposite situation, where absolutely casual riders sneak into the front pack at the start and get literally driven over.

okei' date=' have to agree, they are still on their picnic rides.

the winning time, 2h54 and the 18th 3h52 (okei, maybe the last one got lost and came via saldanha.)

Just let them have their own race. They have their own toilets and don?t want to share it so why must we do all the work for them? Just a joke but I do believe that it will be better for them to ride in their own racing bunch. Do the ladies ride with the men at SA Champs? If not then why do they ride with the men in any local races?

Well at OUR local races the ladies have their own bunches. I am trying really hard to remember a race that they didn't.....maybe if I go back like 3-4yrs I'll find one. That's why on this side there's the moaning about catching the ladies' bunch and getting races neutralised. No happy people.....like ever.

Buddy I have no idea what you are saying. As far as I'm aware we're discussing two separate bunches of cyclists competing in two separate competitions who have been sandwiched together for the sake of the organisers' convenience and this is rubbing sand in the vaginas of some of the Vets. And no doubt the girls don't like it much either.

He he he.

Of course the distinction needs to be made between Pro women and "the rest" of the women. Pro women really should have their own start. As for "the rest" of the women - when they progress to C, B or A perhaps they should contemplate a racing license?

At the smaller races I can understand combining bunches - hell I've ridden VA with Juniors before (now THATS some scary sh!t) but at the bigger races give the women a chance to show what they can do themselves. It's only fair.
