Try 2x Monorails

?

Me too and I think they are awesome. Fast tread in the center' date=' and plenty of grip on the sides with those C knobs. Although I am looking at some weight weenie tubeless tyres for cross country etc.?and keeping the Monorails for?general rugged rides.

I ran 2 Monorails when I got into Mountain biking. So when I cut my front Monorail I decided to get a CrossMark to try something else. I had the CrossMark in front with the Monorail at the back for 2 rides and the combo was terrible, so I switched them around - CrossMark rear and Monorail front; Much better, but I won't say it's better than Monorail front and rear.

My next rear tyre will be a Kenda Nevegal, enabling me to run Monorail front for dry conditions or Schwalbe Albert front for wet stuff. MaxUmis2010-03-23 06:56:48

Would be interesting to know how many people run the heavier UST tyres and how many people get away running the normal versions without issues.

Im running UST's , they are much heavier than what i had on my bike ( by 200g per wheel ) but i think its worth it , the race kings roll so smooth and fast it feels great.

Being a Conti man myself I'm not sure if I'm happy with 44% of the votes going to Conti (race king and king/mtn conmbos).

On the one hand I can't be wrong - on the other hand my "secret edge" has been removed ;-)

Gooooo Conti!

In other news - the Michelin Wild Race'R 29" tyre is hitting our shores soon - I have a pair on order and will certainly post my feelings here when I've threashed them about a bit.

Michelin !!! Eldron how can you backstab your conti's !

Mountain King 2.4 Front and Crossmark at the back. Find that the Race King is not as grippy in the back especially climbing on loose shale and it tends to slide out in turns where the Crossmark grips.

I commute, so X mark front and rear for long life, do about a 1000km a month. But Geax Barro mountain front and xmark rear for all my recreation purposes.

What this do show is that people are afraid to change. Maybe because of the price of tyres or just peer pressure. The two votes for the Maxxis Aspens is definitely Weight Weenie and myself. It is great tyre and at just over R300 you will not find a non-UST tyre at the same weight of just 460gr. Great volume so you can run lower pressure and excellent grip for highveld conditions.

@Mampara, do u run them Front and Rear, where are they best suited?

If Mamapara and Geoff Kabush endorses them then I am willing to take that risk;-)

What no Schwalbe options???

Racing ralph at the back with a smart sam at the front.

I like running my Sam backwards for a little extra bite in the corners

Front and back. I've used it on the muddy/sh!tty spruit and is was great and the weekend at a relatively dry Groenkloof and they were amazing. Sheds mud way faster then Larsen TT. I will see how long they last when I use the comming winter to commute on tar.

None of the tyres that I use is on the list but here goes.... I usually run Specialized Captain Controls on the front and Fast Traks on the rear. The tyres are of a relatively soft compound and very light. Sidewalls are very thin so they are prone to sidewall cuts when running at places with lots of shale and rocks. The Captain does a wonderful job at steering and has lots of grip. The Fast trak rolls nice and fast but is not that great in the mud or over wet roots.

On the Sani2C I used Hutchinson Torro's front and rear. These tyres are of a hard compound with very thick sidewalls and absolutely bomb proof and very nice in the wet. Not too sure how they would handle in dry GP conditions but I have my doubts about them up here. They are heavy but like those fire and forget missiles on warplanes - once you put them on you can forget about them and just cycle away.

Keen to try the high volume Conti's out next...

I prefer the heavier Monorials on all rides.  The time that I loose to the heavier tyres is nothing compared to the risk of frequent puctures and a possible sidewall cut.
