Metro cops WTF ....

Today in Isando I got to a robot that wasn't working - I becomes a 4-way stop - and, despite being a cyclist, I stopped to give way to the car coming on my right... I even unclipped and put my foot down.

 

I noticed a metro police van coming from my left, but as it hadn't got to the intersection, I decide to go. The metro van wasn't going fast but then this fat lipped idiot doesn't stop and hoots at me as he passes behind me.

 

A few seconds later I hear a car coming up behind me and this metro toss pulls up next to me and forces me to stop. It then starts shouting and swearing at me for going through without stopping.

 

I try explaining that I did stop but it was he who didn't and he tells me that police have the right of way at 4-way stops. He threatens to arrest me and all sorts of things, so I offered to give him my name and address, but he just told me to to stop f.....g with the police and that its people from the old days like me that cause all the sh.t

 

I did NOTHING to provoke him and he left by wheelspinning his way through an illegal U-turn !!

Standard practice these days. Had a similar run in with them. For reference the rules of engagement are the following:

 

a) if you are white your are racist

b) if you are white you are wrong

c) if you are white and try to plead your innocence refer to point a above

This is unfortunately where I lose all available patience and tell him to f-off. Which in turn will probably land me in jail for insulting an officer of the law(read: unlawful).

You know, one cannot just accept that people will forgive and forget what happened in the past(thus there will always be such happenings like in this post), but for anyone in this country to live a prosperous life we all need to work together and just leave our issues at home.

 

People with an attitude such as this officer is the real problem and that's what's stopping our country going anywhere and becoming a 1st world nation.

Unfortunately this is the attitude one must expect from the powers that be as we slowly slide into a police state. Maybe the metro officers also want a military rank system to make them feel even more important ? The harassment of the public by officers of the law is not only directed racially but also ethnically. Remember the recent incident with Zuma when Chumani Maxwele gave him the middle finger ? Yes, it angers all of us, white and black alike, and when you're on your bike you are most vulnerable. I would take the path of least resistance [to a reasonable point] and be on my way. Ranting and raving in a situation like this is likely to end badly for oneself. On a positive note though, this past Friday a bunch of us from City Cycling were given an unsolicited escort through an intersection in the CT city bowl by a friendly traffic official. He pulled up alongside us on our return trip from Suikerbossie, had a friendly chat with us at the lights, and then pulled his motorbike into the intersection stopping the traffic, and waving us through  I don't think the Edenvale officers ever did that for anyone while I lived in that neighbourhood .. except maybe to get Bob McBribe to the Steers on time for the Wacky Wednesday specials !!
