Marius, the bottle-sharing excuse was Ian McCleod and the drug in question was Deflazacort not testosterone or a testosterone booster. Not sure what benefit he got from it.. zero to none it seems. He came in 18th on the day, although that in itself could be read as an attempt to avoid being tested.

Past week-end lazing at Camps Bay when I overheard some dude mention that they advised Ian and MTN to appeal his sentence and they will make it go away as the sport needed MTN now more than ever as they stood to lose 47 events if MTN  pulled the plug let alone the professional set-up Doug runs to the tune of R60million over 5 years from MTN.

By the way this dude is in talks with MTN to help CSA financially as well.

Makes you think

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!!!

Thats why Kevin Evans chirped you on twitter when you said people weren't buying their sh%t about the bottle nonsense. He was bricking himself that if enough people made a noise about the incident then MTN would be under pressure to pull the plug on sponsoring the team and he would be without of a job...

McCleod insulted everyone's intelligence by saying it was a spiked bottle.  He was going to get banned either way - if he simply told everyone that he took asthma medication for which he didn't have a prescription nobody would have worried about it.  Just for the BS story he should be banned for 2 years.

Yes, his excuse is definitely mystifying, especially in light of his TUE for asthma meds. WTF was he thinking? Or more to the point, what f*ckwit handed him the script he was he reading in court? Maybe there's more to it and it does seem like the popcorn time is not yet over for this story.

It's amazing that they used the "spiked bottle story"... it didn't work for Ben Johnson in the '88 Seoul Olympics bust.

While we can't (and I don't) condone doping, I think it's grossly unfair to "encourage" a sponsor to pull out of the sport we all love. It's their money that allows all of us to race.

NCR: Vodacom have already announced that they will look to cut sponsorship by several million rand next year as their margins shrink due to regulation. MTN will follow suit I'm sure.

Not disagreeing with anything else in your post - however: it is not THEIR money that allows us to race.

It is our money that allows us to race OR, put another way, it is our desire to race that makes us race. If there was no sponsor, people will still race. (Perhaps not all the showboaters would race, nor those who would then rather go get a "real" job.)

Must agree, it would be quite out of place for Big H to be insulting.

Big H will remain a Krugersdorp boytjie who hates anything not white, yet he loves eyeing all the Africans hence his need to stay in the doldrums of Africa lusting after their women much as his forefathers did.

Camps Bay lazy couch at Nando's on mon/Wed.  Tues /Thurs and Sun at Caprice where no cyclist's actually bother to show up with helmets on.

Colonel small rumour your other sport might get some moola from MTN.
